Moms Estate Finds - Richard Lindh Planter

A few things my mom gathered for me. A letter file in orange, yum. Pair a Italian Christmas votives. A Dansk cheese board and a medium sized Arabia Finland planter by Richard Lindh. I have 4 or 5 of them now and should decide if I'll going to use them of sell them. Thanks mom!

Estate - Doll Hoarder

From a doll hoarder estate. Mostly recent dolls from QVC. Houses full of old ladies dolls just creep me out. The house smelled sick so it was a quick run with little to show for time and gas. Desk / piano lamp, Italy gloves for the sis and some Rosti utensils. Maybe next time.

Thrift - Mom's Finds Nymolle

Mom found me a couple of things. A large ski theme silk scarf for my sister. A little Nymolle cup by Hoyrup with a cute port side scene. And a pair of orange servers. If anyone has any info on the servers let me know. Thanks Mom!

Thrift - Trail of Tears

Thinking that thrift might not ever pick-up. Just to many people I'm thinking same with estate sales which is why I skipped last weekend.

But I have been finding a lot of architect desk lamps lately! Pair of Luxo Norway LC industrial task lamps, see below. They are huge, weigh a ton and are missing the clamps. Perfect for a workbench. Also picked up the sis a 70's Trail of Tears signed leather belt. SOLD And another Belgium bottle SOLD

Saw a huge glass Vignelli/Heller casserole with lid with an equally huge chip in the rim, guess that's why it was still there.

At GoodW. found more plastic Colonial trays. Can't resist the colors! For Sale. And more Japan lacquer trays! SOLD

Thrift - The Submarine Sandwich

Thrifts are still poo-poo. I think the word has gotten out. Used to see piles of mugs at stores too but not anymore. Stopped by the two usual this morning. Another glass jar-when it snows it rains. Passed on six Japan stacking mugs.

Typography 70s Make-Your-Own sub/sandwich platter. How perfect is this for a football party? Would make a great man gift for a man cave. I see these every so often but they are usually scratched to hell. This still retains original sticker "Grainware" made in Chicago. Do you see lettuce, tomato or veggies in the type?

Thrift - Hear Me Roar

After the two estate sales stopped at area thrift stores. Iceland tea towel. Interesting Modernist ala Alexander Girard wood lion with illegible signature and 1975. SOLD

Two glass jars have been finding a lot of these of late SOLD. Little Swedish tomte SOLD. Three storage plastic jars new in box.

Fire King "Kimberly" mug for the sis. Didn't get the matching bowl cause of a small chip though maybe I should have...though I could just pick it up in an antique store since they are inexpensive. Six bright orange plastic egg cups (orange being my favorite color) SOLD

Forgot to add the 1970-80s Coach purse and a pre-1975 made in NYC Coach leather briefcase (apparently these are rare to find) for the sis. I really like the brief and the bag is growing on me.

Thrift - Plastic Fantastic!

At my fave thrift store I found a large Sonoma Valley tin, made in England, bright yellow desk organizer, made in Hong Kong. Pack of un-used Gary Larson Christmas cards. Not sure why I bought the little wood "Class of 1934" figurine (reminds me of Russian ones?) but I thought it was cute.

At the old biddy store this mug has been calling me for the past few weeks. I love the graphics but it has a chip in the rim, sadness.

Also saw this Danish style (couldn't find any marking) rosewood wall unit/room divider. You can see the bar unit and shelves piled on the floor. It's dovetailed but not very well-made. The rest hasn't come in yet so it doesn't go on sale till Tuesday. I was told one other person asked about it too. I don't have room for anymore furniture and I doubt it will be cheap.

Thrift - Herman Miller Mug

Braved the old biddy shop-again nothing. Went to my fave thrift store which was dead and pretty empty of goods. Hopefully, my big box of donations will help and got rid of that UUUGly black "Skulls & Bones" sweater belonging to my bro-in-laws, phew-wee.

Picked up a Christmas make your own ornaments Pom-Pom kit. Blue enamel Turkish pot. Passed on a mint small blue enamel single serving coffee pot maybe it'll be there next time? And a stainless steel German WMF (higher end) butter dish but it's really scratched-don't know what I was thinking? Passed on a Pyrex wood stopper wine carafe (see bottom pic) a second mistake!

At GoodW. I scored a Herman Miller mug! Actually, I went back for this 'cause I thought for sure a Herman Miller mug would be marked on the bottom. SOLD Plus 56 cents for the blue Rosti Denmark spoon.

Thrift - Plastic Trays

My fave thrift store is closed until the New Year and I'm having withdrawal. Stopped at the old biddie shop where everything was 50% off. Yuck, talk about the bottom of the barrel. Did pick up three interior design books from the 70's including a Conran Kitchen book..

At GoodW. I passed on a Pyrex Butterprint large mixing bowl with serious condition issues that I thought was priced too high at $5. But I've had the argument with GW workers before over Pyrex and condition, someone buys it in the end so what's the care. I found a collection of "Colonial Plastics, Cleveland Ohio" trays with four matching cups. I have quite a few of these already. I use them as drawer organizers but will be selling these. Thrift - Snowbabies!

Headed out early today. Finally bought the yellow Tupperware pitcher that has been calling me for a
few weeks. 1970s Wood painting of spice rack, signed by the artist.

Pair of Heller bowls, I always think it's weird just to find a few Heller items. SOLD

Swingline stapler that I haven't decided if it's worth selling. Vintage Santa mug made in Japan SOLD. Baggie of birds but I just wanted the carved walnut, sticker underneath says "Made by Olga." These two unmarked wood soldier ornaments didn't do anything for me but I thought they were too well made not to purchase. Made in Austria? SOLD. Red hat bottle cork that, I think, is from Italy?

Paid decent dollars for a baggie of teeny tiny snowbabies but I had noticed a few of them were marked Germany.  In addition, when I pointed them out another lady watched me intently perhaps in hopes that I would put them down? Some of the German babies are marked 1935.

Thrift - Little Swedish Figures

Went to four thrift stores a good distance from my house. Haven't found anything at them in ages. Did pick up this interesting lint brush, the hat & brush separate from the lower half. Don't know anything about it. It's pretty well made and heavy. Another birthday Boynton mug (I finally sold one)

A red Erzgebirge Christmas candle holder it spins but is missing a gold star on a spike. Nymolle "Maroc" cup and dish designed by Paul Hoyrup. I didn't notice the big chip until I got home, dang. Yellow Danish Rosti server. Sheffield England "Made Danish" knife with wood handle part of a carving set.

Picked up three swedish ornaments in an Antiques store for my collection. The windmill is marked Svensk Slöjd, which translates to Swedish Handicraft.

Thrift - Part Duex

Aside from the credenza here are some of the items I picked up. The only thing I found at the old biddy shop was the glass Chemex missing the wood collar (have 2 now) Had to explain to the ladies what it was - probably a bad idea, I bet the minute I left, they looked on Ebay. Did notice that now some of their mugs are $1 instead of the usual 50 cents. Paid $2.50 for my little Arabia mug the other day. I'm griping.

I was intrigued by the stack of Tupperware bowls because they have colored little plates inside (see pink on atop) Not so exciting, I find out they are for making ice cream sandwiches. An older piece of pastel TupperWare. I don't know why I picked it up, I don't need to start collecting pastel, since I already collect the 70's colors, sigh.

'Graymark Binary Clock' was originally a kit for nerds. Hubby stole it for desk at work and then it broke. Flower fabric last week I found the matching sheer fabric to this, will sell.

Bunch of little red cardinals. Tiny little Swedish Christmas tree candleholder by Gunnar Soderberg SOLD. A terrible handpainted ornament I thought to rescue. A massive leather belt with brass buckle stamped 'Made in England' Did you wear this with a prairie dress? For my sister SOLD. A lastly, very thick Scandinavian style woven textile belt.

Estate - Crazy Crazy Mid Century Sale

These are my finds from the craziest yet mid-century sale. If I get a chance I'll post some of the sale pics. It was a house of a Jewish couple who in 1938, after Hitler's annexation, left Austria. They had wonderful cool taste. The house was filled with items I'd never even seen! Lots of old Herman Miller too. But boy was it expensive. Full blown retail and then some! All the crazed people were making me nervous so I left. Really need a camera phone!

I returned on the last day and picked these few items. There wasn't much of anything left. Sigh, born 50 years to late. Dansk teak round cheese board. SOLD

Rorstrand flora plate that for some insane reason I thought was by Stig Lindberg (the matching cup & saucer were gone) SOLD. Yellow and orange Erik Kold plastic storage containers, made in Denmark. SOLD. Have many that I use in my kitchen. But since these are bright and shiny I'll consider selling them. Two bright orange kitchen utensil, made in Thailand and now looking at the receipt I paid a ridiculous amount for!

Dansk bar board (for lemons) pull the handle an a attached knife slides out. That will wow the friends! Cost $7.95 in 1964. SOLD. Teak lattice coaster marked 'Danmark' SOLD. Large molded teak/birch tray made in Sweden. SOLD

Estate - Dansk Acorn Box

Couldn't force myself to go to any estate sales this weekend (though, I think, I missed a good vintage clothes sale) I did manage to drag myself down the road to one on the last day. The house was pretty well cleaned out. Passed on a set of white textured Bjorn Wiinblad Rosenthal tea cups, dinner plates and serving bowls & plates ect for $115.

The Bjorn Wiinblad 'Josephine' tile in the background was by no means a bargain and I have been unable to find examples online. However, on the back of the tile is a write up dated December 1989 of the Hotel Anatole in Dallas and the various works by Wiinblad residing there. SOLD

The IHQ Dansk teak acorn box is rare but has condition issues. SOLD. Little teak elephant. SOLD

Matryoshka Russian doll candlestick toothpick holder. Large glass bowl with leaf design. Found 3 or 4 small ones at the thrift store ages ago. I have yet to discover the maker which drives me nuts. Pair of Dansk iron and brass candlesticks. The droopy dog bank is marked 'My Toy Inc. 1971" SOLD

Thrift - Nambe Bowl & Snoopy

Nothing exciting from thrifting today. Should have gone to estate sales instead. Three Snoopy root beer glasses.

National Airlines glasses, circa 1965. A little $2 mirror for myself dated 1979 and made in the USA. Oh dear, it's makes things look very big! Milk glass vase. More Butterprint Pyrex for myself, paid $2. And 'Town & Country' Pyrex that match two other pieces I found. SOLD

Little yellow Glasbake bowl, found a pink one a month or so back.

Below, think I overpaid for the 569 Nambe Butterfly bowl because it's not in perfect condition. It was first designed by New Mexico sculptor Richard K. Thomas in 1967. This is a current release of the bowl that retails for $115. It's also made in America! SOLD

Thrift - Blue Heller Mug

Stopped by the thrift store. Picked up a pair of Lillian Vernon 1984 Season's tiles. SOLD

Three yards of 'Covington Fabrics 5th Avenue Design' circa 1960-80's. My cousin recognized the teal Heller mug and picked it up for me - good eye! And a small 925 silver and Lapis horse pin that I thought was from Mexico but is most likely Turkoman tribal jewelery. How do I find out if it's an older piece as they are worth much more? SOLD

95 Vendor Community Yard Sale

At the May community yardsale I had much better luck and that was with half the vendors rained out. This morning I arrived at nine so anything good probably had been picked clean an hour ago. Oh well, you can't win them all.

"Petey the Peanut Man" 1966 has the most adorable pink and black circus illustrations (I'll try and remember to snap some pics) Picked up a 60's Mermaid Playskool wood puzzle, I couldn't resist the graphics or the swim cap. I come across these every so often but they are usually quite worn, of recent production and the picture isn't that unusual.

Fornasetti mug by Rosenthal, new in box. Probably issued in the late 90's. Think this is the only decent item I came away with? SOLD

A retro 80's "Big Hug Mug' no doubt in the days before sexual harrassment. SOLD

A 1984 Sanrio rainbow mug. Orange & purple Hutzler Mepal spoons, made in Denmark (sadly I lost a blue one in the earthquake) A small green enamel Turkish pot.

Red 'Apsco Midget Sharpener' made in USA. I was looking at this and asked the seller the price. A woman standing next to me offered him more and grabbed it out of my hands. I told her I was still looking at it and if she didn't mind. The thing is, she was sharing the stall with the man so it was either the greatest sale strategy or she was a real weirdo. 'Course, I had to buy it once she started following me around.

Estate Score! IHQ Staved Teak Tray

Scored this 3 ducks or is it 4 ducks early edition staved teak IHQ Dansk tray for a very good price indeed. I don't know how it wasn't grabbed up since I arrived at least two hours after open doors. It was tucked away behind the sink faucet and perhaps no one noticed it? I think, I should like to keep this find.

In the basement I found 7 Heller large platters designed by Vignelli, gosh they are pretty. White mortar & pestle.

Here are some photos from the sale. Didn't see the very smart pair of chromed Milo Baughman chairs shown on the website, no doubt they where one of the first things picked. Still I don't need furniture and they needed reupholstering but they were divine looking. The Bellek was gone too.
