Thrift Fail - Culver Bar Glasses

Really loved these Culver gold bar glasses but the price was to high for me and I have a hell of a time selling them not to mention the utter hell of packing such fragile items for shipping.

Thrift - Hans Agne Jakobsson Fail

Picked up a few things today. Teak Dansk paddle board SOLD and a Danish teak board. Swiss Reuge music box of a Moulin Rouge CanCan Dancer on top of a second Reuge gold music box SOLD. Two Glasbake soup bowls (I'm always a sucker for these!) SOLD. A Town & Country Pyrex casserole dish with a minty lid.

And weeks later found the base to a Swedish Hans Agne Jakobsson glass lantern after I gave the top to BitofButter see below. I swear I looked high and low for the base. Damn it!

Taped to hell. Arabia pitcher cracked, vase chipped and passed on the Vignelli plates.

Thrift Fail - Chipped Swedish Vase

After the estate sale stopped at a consignment store that I've only had luck in once. The sales person said quite a few dealers drop there goods off here. Fell in love with this Swedish vase but at home discovered a chip in the side and after I had checked so carefully! And I'm always yelling at Mom for buying damaged glass, dang it!

Kinda liked this contemporary lamp by Alex Marshall. One real Timo Sarpaneva candleholder and a fake sold as a pair.

Estate Sale - Blenko Fish by Winslow Anderson

Went to another incredibly overpriced estate sale this morning. No one was there, Saw a few dealers walk in and leave immediately. Huge million dollar home (pricey bit of town - think where Newt Gingrich lives) but the furnishings weren't up to par. But there was a custom pantry - you know the ones that store table leaves, pads ect. Wonder if the house owner was the Mayor of Norfolk VA at some point because of some city silver pins with business cards? Or maybe worked for him.

Was quoted $70 these 3 dresses. Does that seem just a tad teeny bit high? And that was after I mentioned I was a dealer.

Just got a few things. Huge 14+ inch Kokeski with label: From Fukutake Publishing Co. Mar. 29, 1983 SOLD. Teak Swedish tray SOLD. Picked up a 17 inch Blenko Fish by Winslow Anderson, think I overpaid SOLD! Plus an unused wool Faribault throw and a cute little silk Tri-Tie from Japan for the sis. No bargains and probably overpaid for everything, bleh.

Ended up putting a lot of stuff back cause the prices were far to high (priced equivalent to Ebay or more). And they don't discount 50% on the last day? Sorry nothing exciting.

Estate Score! At The Bates Motel

At this spooky 1870s (a former hotel in the 20s) found this Rare Woods Cocobolo tray hanging on a bedroom wall. I also got it for an amazing price considering the cost of other stickered items in the house. The cast iron Dansk candlesticks are for a thrift buddy.

For some reason fell in love with these repro Medieval handblown prunted glasses and waaaay over paid for them. Think I was still high off the Dansk tray. Maybe someone who likes Game of Thrones will buy them? Craft book for 1968, teak Dansk board, Pyrex and a Cypress wood bangle Handcrafted by Huppke of Florida SOLD.

It was a great old house but need a swimming pool (think Olympic size) full of cash in updates and repairs. The coolest thing was all the old doors still had the hotel room numbers on them. Hopefully someone restores the house but my hopes aren't high.

Accidentally photoed the red pot from the other day. Found some cool nautical Libbey bar glasses by Esso unfortunately one broke in my hand in the thrift store, sadness. Um and a Dala horse...

Thrift - Antje Vogel and Vera Scarf

Feel that I haven't thrifted in a while... Here are the finds; a cute Sevi growth chart by German illustrator Antje Vogel SOLD, little red Turkish pot, 2 glass jars SOLD and 4 tiles by Lilian Vernon and because of all the GoodW tape I didn't see that one was chipped SOLD.

And a silk blend Vera scarf, a silk Liz Claiborne scarf and a vintage Lucky Charms hanky. This was a lot of work to get through thrifts swarming with kids (I'm disturbed that HeadStart is no longer funded) and strollers.

Estate - House of Pee

Managed one estate sale that was described as "Art Filled" Har har, the jokes on me. The house had a strong nauseating sickly sweet smell - pee? The ceiling and walls were marked with dead bugs or something? Yep, knew this wasn't going to be good.

The sale was heavily salted with other people crappy stuff as all the tags had different names. Might as well have gone to an antique store with the prices. Anyway, I went for the wool blankets that I was hoping were Hudson Bay or Pendleton. There were a lot of blankets but turns of they were JC Penny 1960s, stained, full of holes and with prices at $20-30. In fact, the whole house was JC Penny and other low-end worn items. The only thing I left with is a very cool set of 11 mod paint drip TasteSetter glasses.

Thrift - Snoopy Bowl But Where Is the Dog?

With the Christmas rush over one can finally update the blog. Went to my three local thrifts this morning and only found something at my fave. Oh at the old biddie store found this free blue Keyes tray all beat to hell. Maybe it'll wash up a bit?

Two vintage games from 1968. The Funny Bones card game is some sort weird swingers game, well maybe. Older blue mint tin. These Houze glass trays are stalking me. Seeing them everywhere and I love em!

Got the snoopy bowl my sis wanted me to pick-up unfortunately the blue one was cracked. And last five German fretwork Christmas ornaments to add to my three from last year.

Estate - Excuse Me, Do I Look Retarded?

So I actually went to this estate sale early but was caught in commuter and construction traffic for almost an hour. Missed the other primary Pyrex set, jadite pour bowl and some small Norway enameled bowls. This sale mentioned tools and it was mostly men going hog wild throwing things about. People must like to buy old cans of paint?

A new in the box Danish candle holder that is wonderfully crafted and designed SOLD. There are sparkles in the metal and I'm very tempted to keep it. Another wood elephant, my 4th. My first primary Pyrex bowl set. A very cute pull ornament of an alpine skier in sweater and winter cap, made in Austria SOLD. Picked up another damn large green stamp Chemex again SOLD (I'm afraid to count the numbers)! For some reason its now raining these suckers. This one has the optional lid.

Excuse my following rant. The estate sale was just an omen for how the rest of the day would proceed. At my dermatologist office (I never met a derm. there either) I was informed my rate of $175 would double to $350. Evidently, if you give a silent deadpan stare at someone trying to; how do you kindly say "bend you over..." it makes them very nervous! The sales lady tried to give me this story of what a wonderful gift I had been given for all these years (the $175 rate) and I should be appreciative and now gladly pay $350 for a 20 minute visit. Do I appear to be some 6th grade edu-ma-cated bum hick that fell off the turnip truck? Since when are you running a charity and not a business, telling me I should be grateful for paying $175 for a 20 minute visit with an esthetician. Your account and business manager allow you to undercharge people? I assume you offer Botox, dermabrasion and plastic surgery out of the goodness of your heart? Bleh bleh with your bullshit lies, shovel that crap to some other retard 'cause it ain't me.

After the derm. I bombed at several thrifts where I usually find something. Picked a green primary Pyrex bowl (I know, I know, no more Pyrex) and a 1966 1st edition Joan Walsh Anglund book, I have a soft spot for her illustrations. The little Anglund frame was found in a Cape Cod thrift.

Thrift - Monster Blenko

Was early at my fave thrift and there was a crowd lined up again! The mob lunged through the door when opened and many ran for the bread baskets. Stuffing 3 to 5 loaves in their bags. Christ, who the hell needs that much bread! It'll just make you fat as all hell! And I could not see any staving people. Jesus would be sad at all these people scrambling over donated bread and greedily stuffing their bags.

Is it just me or was everyone running around panting? Walking around not seeing much I spotted the 19+ inch monster Blenko vase from a distance SOLD. Close-up I was surprised to see the Blenko sticker as usually these end up being made in China/Ikea especially at this size. Found the wooden tool box hidden with the baskets. I like it because of the bottom drawer. Bombed at the two other thrifts.

Thrift - Bird Feeder (For People)

Hit the usual three thrifts this morning before grocery shopping, didn't expect to find much, so I'm happy with the glass feeder for people (sold a tall one last year, see below) SOLD and a Kelly green acrylic and wood bangle for the sis.

Estate - Kaj Franck

Went to a MCM house owned by a Japanese-American who was one of President Nixons staffers. He had excellent taste and the house was neat as a pin. The couple that picked the last two mcm estates were just leaving with everything! There were very few people around as well maybe because of the summer months plus the sale was a drive from the city.

Did manage to find a few things left and the seller bargained too, a real treat! My first white Arabia planter by Richard Lindh dated 1970 SOLD (have 5 dark ones too) Pair a gunmetal trigger mugs by Bennington Potters of Vermont SOLD. Older smoked decanter by Kaj Franck for Nuutajarvi, Finland and 5 super thin smoke "Rhapsody"? glasses plus a shot by Orrefors, Sweden SOLD. And a little grey German Darda mechanical flocked mouse from 1984.

Couple of glass jars SOLD, blue Turkish pot SOLD, 4 teak trays (one left), 4 adorable animals mugs just found that the doggy has a repaired handle, sadness SOLD. An 80s rainbow joy mug.

Had to pass on this huge basket cause the leather straps were broken and dry rotted. A lovely mod floral dress for my sister, the colors are much brighter than the photo. The pink flower print was cute but not $65 cute. If anyone has any info on the signature let me know. And a large blue glazed planter (not pictured) for the front yard (the pickers got all the gorgeous huge incised planters) One the way home stopped by a yard sale and found myself a puzzle for $2.

At the bottom you see two unflattering photos of the house that I promise was very cool.

Thrift - Raggedy Ann

Slim pickings today. Skipped estate sales this weekend past as I didn't see anything worth a 30 or 40 minute drive. Pair of Raggedy Ann Jeanette milkglass mugs. Thin glass ginger jar and four Eternia forks. Maybe better luck next week.

At my fave thrift found The Bellevue tin, made in England. Another corked jar. A very cool large Terraillon scale, made in France. Huge Schmidt chest tin, made in Germany. A Holly Hobby-esque mug. Older Scottish Patterson's shortbread tin back before Britain went metric (oops, the thrift store charged me 10x the price)

Thrift & Rummage: Text Lovers Jar

Went down the street to a Synagogue rummage sale this morning with high hopes. Bleh, rubbish sale. My neighborhood just doesn't have money or old people. As I like to say-everyone buys a big house to fill with IKEA. Funny cause everyone thinks they are rich/well-off but I don't think rich people fill their house with Target and discount furniture. Am I being snarky, cause I get annoyed with people who lease their beamers and rent? Well, that was off topic.

I passed on a Brutalist Wainberg Menorah for $10 too much that had a wonky arm. The only thing I found at the empty rummage sale was this Jalapeno text jar.

A visit to GWill the previous day yielded 4 Dansk candleholders SOLD (passed on one chipped) and a lone Blenko bookend SOLD.

Thrift - Dansk IHQ

Dropped off donations at my old biddie shop. Only picked up the Swedish EKS scale even though I had mixed feelings about it SOLD.

Forgot that I wasn't supposed to buy anymore cutting boards when I saw this teak lovely marked: Dansk Denmark IHQ. You see the very thin glass walled Italian perfume bottle at the bottom? Well, it have a match. My basket tipped and I watched in slow motion, one roll into the other. Thinking to myself "Hmm, one of those is going to break" Doh!!! It still pains me to think about it. SOLD

Moms Finds

Mom found a couple of things for me at what she described "a dumpy church sale" A Chemex coffee pot and a little Danish Nymolle dish illustrated by Hoyrup SOLD.

In addition, there is an advertising mug for Black & Decker by Kiln Craft, England and a 1966 children book "The Travels of Monarch X" I have to mention that as a child, I remember seeing loads of Monarchs during the summer but now, I can't remember the last time I saw one?

Flea Market - Dorothy Thorpe Roly Poly

My community had it's spring giant yard sale this morning. I slept in as the sale tends to be rather stinky. With glorious weather the grounds were packed with crowds! I'm being generous in saying the sale was 95% baby clothes. To say the least, shopping took less than 30 minutes.

Did miss out on a set German paper nesting eggs. In the end, all I found was a glass candy jar SOLD, vintage Japan dog SOLD (next to my smaller blue doggie) and three Dorothy Thorpe roly poly's with sterling silver bands. SOLD
