Thrift - Vera Tea Towels

Today was a good day and yellow themed! First time I've ever found Vera tea towels thrifting. Three of them unused with the tags! I'll have them listed soon or inquire through my Etsy shop if you are interested. Love the kitschiness of Joan Walsh Anglund - little box of illustrated plates for framing - perfect baby room decor.

Below a pair of tins. Two boxes of Dansk tiny tapers, pair of Campbells soups mugs and yes that's another Boynton mug you see, don't hate. And a mirror with a huge yellow plastic frame, unmarked hope it's not old Ikea. Sigh, Vera makes me happy!

Thrift - Dick Bruna Curtains

Gonna try and blaze through this. Must be going through thrift withdrawal as I stuffed my bag today? Large collection of Thermo-Temp raffia mugs and bowls SOLD.

Terence Conran's House Book, have his older version that I use frequently as reference. Pile of vintage hankies. Found the Micheal Lax Copco blue fondue pot stuffed in a corner as I was leaving the store SOLD. In my excitement, forgot to check under the mounds of tape as the wood knob has a sloppy repair, bummer! I'm a sucker for miniatures and kids wooden toys, see little pirates, sailors, gents and ladies ect.

Thrift - Arts & Crafts Cowan Pottery

So I cried off thrifts and estate sales but only lasted for little over a week. And it's been an orange sort of day.

Four acrylic sea shell napkin holders from the old biddie store.

I lost the pics - pair of what I thought were ugly Rosewood lamps (see attached metal base) apparently sold at Scan Furniture. Pricy tag of $120 each they sold at 50% off. Overpriced $10 English mustard pot missing its lid, again this sold. Saw a lady buying a rather nice large blue English Wedgewood vase and planter at over Ebay prices.

Sick of wack-a-do thrift prices went to my fave thrift and found this Tomte / gnome on a candleholder log by Rolf Berg of Sweden SOLD. Bit dinged-up orange architects lamp but this one actually comes with matching clamp. Far back, is a green accordion wood peg mug holder SOLD. Trio of wood ladies from Nora Sweden SOLD. Couldn't resist the orange and picked up the atomic promo Tang pitcher.

And by far my favorite find for today! Piled in with planters and fake flowers, found this little uranium Chinese glaze Arts & Crafts Cowan pottery. Such a lovely finely crafted little vase its a shame Cowan went bankrupt in 1931. 

Forced myself to pass on Raymond Lowey Continental Script for Rosenthal, I love it but it just doesn't seem to sell, bummer. Cool Farmers mug from England but damaged and aren't worth much. Someone donated a lot of mismatched California Modern but most of it was damaged.

Thrift - Umm More Mugs

Another Time Life Cook Book, a really neat expanding buffet server by Jaxton (sold a similar one by Karoff a few years ago) and some bright yellow egg cups.

Two childrens books by favorite illustrators, Lisbeth Zwerger and Trina Schart Hyman. Four Monday Blues mugs perfect for the office. Vintage 80s rainbow tin plus a house one. Was really tempted by the cute fingerprint Jewish mouse bank but the stopper was missing. Can't remember the illustrator.

Moms Finds - Pendleton Reindeer Sweater

Some of moms finds for me from a few estate sales. Chinoiserie style red orange lacquer mirror. Red Rudolf stuffed deer and a Swedish Dala. The reindeer Pendleton wool sweater (Made in the USA) going to my thrift buddy Scott at New Documents.

The organizer below was formerly used in a sewing room. Plus an 80s cow moo tin. Thanks mom!

Estate Sale - Blenko Fish by Winslow Anderson

Went to another incredibly overpriced estate sale this morning. No one was there, Saw a few dealers walk in and leave immediately. Huge million dollar home (pricey bit of town - think where Newt Gingrich lives) but the furnishings weren't up to par. But there was a custom pantry - you know the ones that store table leaves, pads ect. Wonder if the house owner was the Mayor of Norfolk VA at some point because of some city silver pins with business cards? Or maybe worked for him.

Was quoted $70 these 3 dresses. Does that seem just a tad teeny bit high? And that was after I mentioned I was a dealer.

Just got a few things. Huge 14+ inch Kokeski with label: From Fukutake Publishing Co. Mar. 29, 1983 SOLD. Teak Swedish tray SOLD. Picked up a 17 inch Blenko Fish by Winslow Anderson, think I overpaid SOLD! Plus an unused wool Faribault throw and a cute little silk Tri-Tie from Japan for the sis. No bargains and probably overpaid for everything, bleh.

Ended up putting a lot of stuff back cause the prices were far to high (priced equivalent to Ebay or more). And they don't discount 50% on the last day? Sorry nothing exciting.

Thrift - Million Dollar Dala

Accidentally photoed the red pot from the other day. Found some cool nautical Libbey bar glasses by Esso unfortunately one broke in my hand in the thrift store, sadness. Um and a Dala horse...

Greene "Spectrum" sugar jar from England - the cork top needs a little help (thanks Sabvintagehome). A vintage poodle dish by Houze Art.

What! Yes that's another Boda Snowball (makes #16) I don't find much Scandi but Snowballs sure love me! I'm thinking the glass maybe iittala reminds me of "i-series" with it's very thin walls and base it better not be Ikea! The other matching glass was chipped even thought the thrift biddy tried to convince me I could file the large chip down.

Community Yard Sale

Went to my community yardsale this morning. Mostly kids stuff, clothes and plastic junk but did manage to find a few nice items.

Realized when I got home that the Coach satchel is missing the front buck/latch, wonder if it can be replaced? MOMA ramen spork by a Japanese designer, the name alludes me at the moment. Bonova enameled penguin pin. Little lone Russian nesting doll SOLD. Vintage Italian glass tree ornament that I have yet to find any info on...

Thrift - Vikings Ahoy

Drove 45 miles today. Stopped in an antique mall first and picked up a silk pink nautical scarf signed "Bell" for the sis. Jonathan and MidMomMod suggested I should most definitely get the Danish Viking ship linen runner. Appears to be signed: IH. Perhaps a Sodahl textile? SOLD

The only thing I found out of 4 thrifts was another Boda snowball this makes #15 (I found one yesterday as well) SOLD

At a consignment store found someones small Lucite collection. I don't think they knew what the items were but it was priced very high probably just due to coolness factor. Might post photos after Christmas, hee hee.

Thrift - Iceland Wool Throw

Finally decided to go thrifting after a short break. My best find by far is the wool Iceland throw found on the way out and most likely a keeper. The tag has been removed but I'm guessing it's a tourist item. Some large Tupperware cups. An unusual round puzzle from 1976. A Penn. Dutch pretzel tin.

And at the old biddy shop found a small Aquarius poster that I couldn't resist SOLD.

Below are items I passed. Love finding Marimekko mugs but sadly the handle was cracked. My thrifts mark anything vintage with a high price tag, see the Eva Zeisel teapot tagged "Rare $25" with a large chip in the lid (must have sold cause it was gone the next time I went. Nope it's July and it's still there.) Even perfect it's not a deal at that price. A monster lava glazed lamp that was damaged in several places and in my opinion, ugly (but it sold).

Thrift - $5 Glass...What A Bargain!

So skipping the lovely Danish estate sale (see previous post), I made the rounds to two local thrift stores. Passed on these Apollo glasses 'cause I thought they were 50 cents rather than $5 each (must have sold cause they are gone now). You gotta love the bargains at the old biddy store! Ended up getting an 80s globe, are they still popular? And four Campbell soup mug / bowls from 1989 SOLD.

At my fave thrift store found four Maxwell House coffee mugs by Kiln Craft of England. My first undamaged Interdesign storage box in a rather boring color SOLD. You don't see the milkglass vase since I just vowed not to buy anymore!

Another Campbell's mug, weird SOLD. An adorable hand-painted oxen mug by Oxney Green, England but discovered a crack in the handle, bummer! And four craft books from the 70s. Used to find tons of these 3 years ago so was mighty surprised to see these. Again no exciting thrift finds compared to those on the West coast but gotta make to with what I have, curse East coast bad taste!

Thrift - Snoozer Finds

Nothing exciting here. Teak box sized for photos, minty lemon yellow milkglass mug, Russian nesting doll missing some parts and a brass desk lamp. All for sale soon in my Etsy shop.

Antiquing - Turquoise Unicorn Lamps

Decided to drag Amy with me antiquing, turns out (for me) she has a good eye. The ice chipper is from Amy. The leather Coach brief is from the mid 80s and made in USA. Paid $65, it's for me as I prefer suitcases over purses and yes, I carry around that much crap! It fits a laptop nicely too.

The gold turquoise matched pair of unicorn lamps were expensive but how can one resist aqua unicorn lamps? Amy spotted 'em and was heavily lusting over them.

The little Sevi egg holder caught my eye last time so I decided to get it. The large Steinbach "Baron Von Munchausen" (riding a cannonball, edition # S798, Steinbach created another version of the Baron von Munchhausen following the issuance of this particular smoker (the hat is a felt hat instead of wooden, like it is here, and there are no feathers in the newer version's hat but this is the original first version. This is a retired, hard-to-find, first edition collectible, 9 inches, early 1980s ) smoker was 1/2 off. It's surprisingly heavy. I don't think they knew what it was despite the sticker on the bottom. A little Japan knee hugger. A heavy metal desk organizer by Deyhle, Germany SOLD. And a German Wendt & Kuhn fishwife miniature - don't think they knew what this was either.

Thrift - Snoopy Bowl But Where Is the Dog?

With the Christmas rush over one can finally update the blog. Went to my three local thrifts this morning and only found something at my fave. Oh at the old biddie store found this free blue Keyes tray all beat to hell. Maybe it'll wash up a bit?

Two vintage games from 1968. The Funny Bones card game is some sort weird swingers game, well maybe. Older blue mint tin. These Houze glass trays are stalking me. Seeing them everywhere and I love em!

Got the snoopy bowl my sis wanted me to pick-up unfortunately the blue one was cracked. And last five German fretwork Christmas ornaments to add to my three from last year.

Thrift - Bad Thrifts Make Me Cranky

Nothing all that exciting here. Visited 2 thrifts on the way to a store. Shelves were bare at the GWill but did manage to pick up the Boynton mug and a silk scarf for the sis.

At a crappy crappy over-priced thrift for the first time found some items. A Vera "Lacy Fern" vase for Mikasa. Three children books, Mickey Mouse SOLD. Black bear cubs originally designed by Ferguson for Pigeon Forge Pottery in Tennessee SOLD. Hopefully all these items will be up for sale soon in my Etsy shop.

Estate - Excuse Me, Do I Look Retarded?

So I actually went to this estate sale early but was caught in commuter and construction traffic for almost an hour. Missed the other primary Pyrex set, jadite pour bowl and some small Norway enameled bowls. This sale mentioned tools and it was mostly men going hog wild throwing things about. People must like to buy old cans of paint?

A new in the box Danish candle holder that is wonderfully crafted and designed SOLD. There are sparkles in the metal and I'm very tempted to keep it. Another wood elephant, my 4th. My first primary Pyrex bowl set. A very cute pull ornament of an alpine skier in sweater and winter cap, made in Austria SOLD. Picked up another damn large green stamp Chemex again SOLD (I'm afraid to count the numbers)! For some reason its now raining these suckers. This one has the optional lid.

Excuse my following rant. The estate sale was just an omen for how the rest of the day would proceed. At my dermatologist office (I never met a derm. there either) I was informed my rate of $175 would double to $350. Evidently, if you give a silent deadpan stare at someone trying to; how do you kindly say "bend you over..." it makes them very nervous! The sales lady tried to give me this story of what a wonderful gift I had been given for all these years (the $175 rate) and I should be appreciative and now gladly pay $350 for a 20 minute visit. Do I appear to be some 6th grade edu-ma-cated bum hick that fell off the turnip truck? Since when are you running a charity and not a business, telling me I should be grateful for paying $175 for a 20 minute visit with an esthetician. Your account and business manager allow you to undercharge people? I assume you offer Botox, dermabrasion and plastic surgery out of the goodness of your heart? Bleh bleh with your bullshit lies, shovel that crap to some other retard 'cause it ain't me.

After the derm. I bombed at several thrifts where I usually find something. Picked a green primary Pyrex bowl (I know, I know, no more Pyrex) and a 1966 1st edition Joan Walsh Anglund book, I have a soft spot for her illustrations. The little Anglund frame was found in a Cape Cod thrift.

Thrift - Monster Blenko

Was early at my fave thrift and there was a crowd lined up again! The mob lunged through the door when opened and many ran for the bread baskets. Stuffing 3 to 5 loaves in their bags. Christ, who the hell needs that much bread! It'll just make you fat as all hell! And I could not see any staving people. Jesus would be sad at all these people scrambling over donated bread and greedily stuffing their bags.

Is it just me or was everyone running around panting? Walking around not seeing much I spotted the 19+ inch monster Blenko vase from a distance SOLD. Close-up I was surprised to see the Blenko sticker as usually these end up being made in China/Ikea especially at this size. Found the wooden tool box hidden with the baskets. I like it because of the bottom drawer. Bombed at the two other thrifts.
