Estate - Arthur Umanoff Clock

Found the yellow plastic at my old biddy shop. Always pass on Oblique which I regard as commonly found copy of Hellerware but I liked the bright yellow and I thought the shapes were unusual enough. The four small yellow bowls are Heller designed by Massimo Vignelli, these are actually made in Italy (hah, thought I remembered these being first issue) "This ubiquitous melamine dinnerware, designed to be stackable in a compact way, originally was manufactured in Italy and won our first Compassa d'Oro Award for Good Design in 1964."

At my Fave thrift only found the Bodum glass (can't resist them) but when I was walking out I noticed hidden in a corner a huge 1976 oak wall clock by Howard Miller (son of Herman Miller the modern American furniture manufacturer based in Zeeland Michigan) It's a design that both repulsed & attracted me (like old men with money.) The clock was spendy for me (it's safe to call me cheap) so I went home but the folks on ThriftBreak encouraged me to return and buy the 16.5lbs solid oak behemoth. How this will hang from the wall without bringing it down I don't know but you better find a stud! My thanks to Straylight42 for the Arthur Umanoff ID on the clock! Now to sell the sucker...

This is all from my fave thrift. Little plastic Rosti container for me, made in Holland. 10"diamenter Heller glass casserole by Vignelli but the top lid has a chip. Taylor & Ng mug SOLD. Sandra Boynton mug. And a cork desk organizer by Park Sherman, made in USA SOLD.

Estate - More Chemex

Wasted lots of gas this morning going to the crappiest crap estate sales. Returned to one from last week. German woman was a hoarder...of mugs...ugly ones. I think, she might have been a teacher. I restrained myself from picking up 3 Boynton cat mugs.

The next had hellish parking full of honking horns and screaming people. I headed for the kitchen and saw a price of $5 for a plain ole mug and had that sinking feeling. Lots of old fashioned froo froo items not to my taste but I did find a box of small indent Christmas balls. Climbed a shaky stool to grab a Chemex with handle above the fridge. I shouldn't have left the box of filters, dang.

Headed to a 3 thrift/consignment stores in the area. Now these are in one of the wealthiest areas in the country and these places have the same junk I find in other areas. Do rich people not donate? At one, I found everything below. I can't resist wood Polish dolls. Ducks logo teak Dansk cheese board with hidden knife. A heavy corked pot signed "Anna Hogberg, Sweden 1991" Plus, pair small 1975 Vignelli for Heller glass souffle bowls/ramekin.$20ea

Thrift - GoodWill Was Closed!

Still slow at the thrifts, sigh. Grabbed this unused box of 1988 MOMA cookies cutters after I paid and was walking out the door. Two yards of John Deere flannel fabric 'cause I love their graphic fabrics.

Sasaki "Colorstone" designed by MassimoVignelli in 1985 (Heller plates) black matte creamer and sugar. I have a lot of plates and cups I need to sell too. And a "Keep Calm and Carry On" tea towel design from a British war time poster.

Thrift - Royal Copenhagen Teacup

After the estate sale I stopped at a GoodWill and another thrift store. A second Sandra Boyton stress mug. I keep buying these and I haven't sold even one. 1969 Royal Copenhagen of Denmark teacup for 25 cents. SOLD And my second Heller - Vignelli loaf pan. SOLD

Stopped by the thrift store. Picked up a pair of Lillian Vernon 1984 Season's tiles. SOLD

Three yards of 'Covington Fabrics 5th Avenue Design' circa 1960-80's. My cousin recognized the teal Heller mug and picked it up for me - good eye! And a small 925 silver and Lapis horse pin that I thought was from Mexico but is most likely Turkoman tribal jewelery. How do I find out if it's an older piece as they are worth much more? SOLD

Estate Score! IHQ Staved Teak Tray

Scored this 3 ducks or is it 4 ducks early edition staved teak IHQ Dansk tray for a very good price indeed. I don't know how it wasn't grabbed up since I arrived at least two hours after open doors. It was tucked away behind the sink faucet and perhaps no one noticed it? I think, I should like to keep this find.

In the basement I found 7 Heller large platters designed by Vignelli, gosh they are pretty. White mortar & pestle.

Here are some photos from the sale. Didn't see the very smart pair of chromed Milo Baughman chairs shown on the website, no doubt they where one of the first things picked. Still I don't need furniture and they needed reupholstering but they were divine looking. The Bellek was gone too.

Thrift - Seeing Red!

Was out my doctor's way so I decided to stop at a couple of local thrift stores. At the first thrift, I found the never-used red Dansk piaya pan designed by JHQ. This is a later pan because of the handle design and it's made in Indonesia. There is a chip to the interior enamel you can bet that happened at the thrift and might be a deal breaker for resale plus it's not Kobenstyle. New Zealand plastic canister with red top and scoop for myself. There were two but sadly one had a crack. Red pitcher marked Copco SOLD. Passed on two more red enamel pans that were unmarked and overpriced.

At this particular GoodWill I'm always finding Hellerware. Set of tomato red plates, a color I've haven't seen before. Another rainbow mug from FTD.

Stopped by a dead estate sale too. Wow! Was it overpriced! Everything was mostly contemporary and ornate. Did pick up 14 vintage knee hugger elves SOLD. Blue German Rosenthal vase by Bjorn Winblad. For Sale. I need to work on my bargaining skills 'cause they suck.

Thrift - Lots of Plastic

Oh dear, I have so many posts to catch up on...

Here's a short one for today. I've actually been restraining myself & only picking up things that are decent. Plus, it seems to be a slow couple of weeks at the stores. Guess, with the vacations starting and it being a holiday weekend. Stopped at three stores but only found something in two.

Miraculously, found all of this at GoodWill (I never have luck here) Four white plastic Heller plates & two bowls designed by Massimo Vignelli. Excellent condition. Circa 1970-80's.

In addition, almost missed these seven LaGardo Tackett, what I believe to be blue stripe Sundae bowls, marked Schmid Porcelain. Circa 1960's. I was delighted to find these as Tackett is one of my fave designers. Green Pyrex long baking dish in mint condition for me (we use it all the time but I caught the hubby loading it into the dishwasher). So much prettier than the clear ones. Passed on a few Pyrex pieces as they weren't bargains, I didn't care for the patterns and I certainly don't need them.

From another thrift, I found this yellow plastic salad bowl set by Eric Kold. Made in Denmark. Circa 1970's. Looked and looked for the salad utensils but couldn't find them. For sale on my Etsy site

Will have to work on listing more items on Etsy as I have endless amounts of stuff!

Thrift - Cathrineholm Fondue

This is actually from a month ago, but I hadn't time to update my blog before vacation and I'm not going to send much time on it. 10 Dorothy Thorpe high balls glasses with sterling silver bands made popular by the TV show "Mad Men" Thorpe was a California decorator from the 1930-50's.

Deep loaf pan 1975 SOLD. Glass bakeware designed by Vignelli Associates (Massimo and Lella Vignelli) for Heller. First time, I've ever found these.

Bright yellow plastic Rolodex from the 1980's. Never used. SOLD. Very thin glass bird nut dispenser. I've seen these before but can't remember where? SOLD

Nickel plated twisted candlebra by Dansk.

Brown glazed Dansk vase by ceramist Niels Refsgaard. Circa 1977. Made in Japan. I have an off white one too. Even if these don't sell I won't be disappointed because I'd rather almost keep them. Both SOLD

3 boxes of Dansk Tiny Tapers (super thin) candles. Never used. I have a growing collection. Considering selling some when the weather cools down. SOLD.

Catherineholm of Norway fondue pot. Unfortunately, missing the base. This is the first time I've ever seen CHolm at thrift. They must have been popular in CA but not on the east coast. SOLD

My second Boda of Sweden "Snowball" designed by Ann Wärff in 1973 for myself. Small orange enameled Turkish pot made in Poland SOLD. Native American school S&P from the 1970's (have two sets now.) Swedish cheese slicer. Sold

Stavangerflint of Norway mint condition bowl & plate. Illustrated by Kari Nyquist. Circa 1955-68. Hopefully, mom can get the blue set that comes with a cup too. Orange Tackett saucer. Found a blue demitasse cup a few weeks before that was missing saucer.

When I saw these I couldn't resist. Series of 1960-70's German wood cutouts of European fairytales. My fave is the Gnomes with hooks. A few of them are marked "Mertens Kunst" All bought at the Frankfurt store "Papier Kraemer" in Germany. For sale on my Etsy site

Paid waaaay too much for a huge Rosenthal vase from the late 80-90's. But I'm keeping it for myself. Signed W. Bauer. One day the 90's will come back.

Thrift - London Tea Towel

Collection a illustrated children books. 1950-60's flocked little white rabbit with real fur tail, made in Japan. 1970's Nybro Swedish crystal owl head designed by J & S Brattstrom. SOLD

Pair of Noritake China "Mardi Gras" pattern teacups. Brilliant matte white finish with speckled patterned edge. The hot tomato red orange detail gives great contrast against the white. Production 1969-79. Made in Japan. 

"London" linen tea towel probably from the late 60's, freshly laundered. SOLD. Plus, a fantastic, very thin glass decanter with cork stopper. Can't find any info. but I'm pretty positive that it's Swedish or Scandinavian.
