Thrift - Hans Agne Jakobsson Fail

Picked up a few things today. Teak Dansk paddle board SOLD and a Danish teak board. Swiss Reuge music box of a Moulin Rouge CanCan Dancer on top of a second Reuge gold music box SOLD. Two Glasbake soup bowls (I'm always a sucker for these!) SOLD. A Town & Country Pyrex casserole dish with a minty lid.

And weeks later found the base to a Swedish Hans Agne Jakobsson glass lantern after I gave the top to BitofButter see below. I swear I looked high and low for the base. Damn it!

Thrift - Fail

Well, I diddle and dawdled over this 1930s Silex vacuum coffee maker because it was missing the handle. When MidModMom recommend I go back for it someone had already grabbed it. Oh well.

Thrift - Racing Stripe Lamp

I dove in front a some poor woman to grab the pair of pastel stripe "Rainbow" pyrex bowls. It was embarrassing though it would help if I could do that at estate sales. A vintage jewelery box for the sis, it has an ox blood red velvet & satin interior. Two tiny Matryoshka dolls where are the larger ones?

Pair of "Every Truth No Matter Who Speaks It Is Of The Holy Spirit" (isn't that just calling dibs on everything?) solid brass bookends. Made in Israel by Terra Sancta Guild in 1969 SOLD. And a nice large enamel racer stripe 70s desk lamp.

Score - Fornasetti Paperweight

My husband and I spent the weekend at his brothers wedding, my congrats to the little nit, but I did manage to squeeze in a few antique stores on the way home.

Picked up what I thought was a Fornasetti paperweight but was unsure because I could find no marks, probably why it was priced low. Mom tried to talk me out of this purchase but sure am glad I didn't listen to her! For some reason I like gold on porcelain? SOLD

The Porsgrund Norway fish trivet was the only cheaper item in a booth full of Rosenthal and Wiinblad, strange.

The Safeguard soap tin wasn't cheap but I couldn't resist the illustrations. Charlie Bodden says it's very much in the style of Mary Blair. If anyone knows the illustrator I would love more information. SOLD

The "An English pure silk scarf by Callahers of Macclesfield" 1940s to early 50s souvenir scarf was 25 cents! What in the world can you get for a quarter these days? The little Pyrex dish is for me it's one of the two patterns I collect - thought I had a lid at home but of course I don't. Ended up putting back a lot of enamelware - little sad that I did.

Estate - Excuse Me, Do I Look Retarded?

So I actually went to this estate sale early but was caught in commuter and construction traffic for almost an hour. Missed the other primary Pyrex set, jadite pour bowl and some small Norway enameled bowls. This sale mentioned tools and it was mostly men going hog wild throwing things about. People must like to buy old cans of paint?

A new in the box Danish candle holder that is wonderfully crafted and designed SOLD. There are sparkles in the metal and I'm very tempted to keep it. Another wood elephant, my 4th. My first primary Pyrex bowl set. A very cute pull ornament of an alpine skier in sweater and winter cap, made in Austria SOLD. Picked up another damn large green stamp Chemex again SOLD (I'm afraid to count the numbers)! For some reason its now raining these suckers. This one has the optional lid.

Excuse my following rant. The estate sale was just an omen for how the rest of the day would proceed. At my dermatologist office (I never met a derm. there either) I was informed my rate of $175 would double to $350. Evidently, if you give a silent deadpan stare at someone trying to; how do you kindly say "bend you over..." it makes them very nervous! The sales lady tried to give me this story of what a wonderful gift I had been given for all these years (the $175 rate) and I should be appreciative and now gladly pay $350 for a 20 minute visit. Do I appear to be some 6th grade edu-ma-cated bum hick that fell off the turnip truck? Since when are you running a charity and not a business, telling me I should be grateful for paying $175 for a 20 minute visit with an esthetician. Your account and business manager allow you to undercharge people? I assume you offer Botox, dermabrasion and plastic surgery out of the goodness of your heart? Bleh bleh with your bullshit lies, shovel that crap to some other retard 'cause it ain't me.

After the derm. I bombed at several thrifts where I usually find something. Picked a green primary Pyrex bowl (I know, I know, no more Pyrex) and a 1966 1st edition Joan Walsh Anglund book, I have a soft spot for her illustrations. The little Anglund frame was found in a Cape Cod thrift.

Thrift - Not Russel Wright

Decided I was going to Bikram yoga in the morning instead of thrifting...thrifting would have been more fun! So went at lunch to my old biddy store and they had loads of scarves unfortunately priced high. Found a lovely abstract green one but had bleached areas (forgot my phone) Picked out the polka dot poly Vera scarf for the sis.

And vibrant green Dansk fish trivet / wall hanging SOLD and a cork Pyrex decanter SOLD - haven't found one of these in ages! Passed on a pair of Conant Ball chairs (which I thought were by Russel Wright, I was wrong) thrift store crack priced at $125 and I don't need more chairs no matter how comfy. Bombed at the other two stores.

Thrift Part II - Artemide Globes

My old biddie thrift was 1/2 off today and it was crazy crowded at 10:30 in the morning! Before even walking through the doors I glanced in the Free Pile and what did I see? Two minimalist Dioscuri hand-blown & acid-etched glass globes. These lovelies were designed in 2000 by Michele De Lucchi & made in Italy by Artemide. They need some cleaning but hopefully, Shapoopy can replace our cheapo Home Depot bug-catcher stairwell lights with these beauts.

Also picked up a pair yellow gooseberry Pyrex bowls SOLD (sigh, I shouldn't buy Pyrex anymore unless its one of the few desirable patterns or in mint condition) Some Swedish style fabric tape. A tiny little Anni 01 Iittala frosted vase designed by Jorma Vennola SOLD. Prob. dates 1970-74 (triangle label was used until 1974)

Thomas(Rosenthal) Germany white tea pot. Continental China was originally designed by Raymond Loewy in 1951 for Rosenthal SOLD. I suspect this is a later production. The lady said they had the tea cups still in the back, hopefully, I can find them tomorrow. Dang, they said they sold em! And an abstract violet fish batik fabric.

Above is a Swedish batik Skord (Harvest) signed Ilse (Swedish textile artist and ceramicist Ilse Roempke aka Ilse Claeson. Besides being known for her textiles, she was also a ceramist at Rörstrand between 1926 and 1938) and an Egyptian batik signed A. Akar. Still need to see if some information can be found on these two. Mom kindly offered to wash these guys for me too.

And how could I resist the large Vernor Panton-esque Op-Art fabric frame. Very 70s. Now to convince Shapoopy to hang it above the orange velvet sofa.

Estate - Part II

Thought I'd divide this into two sections since there is so much stuff. At my fave thrift found a pair of molded souvenir plywood trays; map of Lake Geneva SOLD and the other of a Swiss train station in the same region. Look! Found a faux Boda Snowball! Nope, it' a real Kosta Boda snowball. B+G, Copenhagen Viking trivet by Antoni SOLD. Passed on a minty roadrunner Couroc bowl as these don't seem to be sellers.

At GoodW noticed the black globe - generally I pass on globes, even donated one last year but I believe black tends to be more unusual. Looking closely most of Africa is French, Germany and Korea are undivided and there is a French Indo-Chine SOLD. Probably dates from 1939-42. Yes, that is more Pyrex...err...they'll go with all my yellow bowls, right? And last, a 1976 Zodiac milkglass mug SOLD and another Boynton mug.

Thrift Score! Lotte Lamp

Have a backlog of posts now. The thrift gods were looking down on me today. Shelves have been empty since Christmas and I've cut down on hunting.

Saw what could have been an IKEA lamp but when I picked it up it had a lovely heavy weight and a fiberglass shade. What luck! A Lotte Bostlund lamp (recognized it because I have a larger one at home.) Made by Danish immigrants who set up shop in Ontario and started producing lamps from 1956 onward. Fiberglass shade were added in the early 60s. It's in excellent condition. Probably 60s from looking at the cord.

Sandra Boyton mug, hey, I can't resist! Some vintage tins made in USA and England. The ever popular corked jar.

Have great luck finding German smokers, really anything German. This Kathe Wohlfahrt (is it just me or does that look like Wool Fart) "Poinsettia" is probably the ugliest item they have to offer. It's extremely well made and hand-painted plus new in the box with incense cones. SOLD

And last, a hot pink felt bitterfly tea cozy that I think it's vintage cause the label looks late 60-70's "Decorative Design San Francisco, California" but it's in minty condition.

Thrift - Gingham Mugs

Have some serious backlog hopefully I'll get too... On the way to mom's stopped at two thrifts. At the first, a busy Easter weekend was packed with Hipsters always a bad sign for me, only found the flamboyant 1776 glass (have 3 or 4 matching) At GoodW picked up five yellow stacking gingham mugs. The bottoms are unmarked. Was sick as a dog and couldn't stand the thought of hitting another thrift so that the it for me.

Thrift - Lot of Work

Aurgh, this post wasn't saved so I'm rewriting it. The morning was spent at 5 horrid estate sales (including one that had a 1/2 hour wait after being open for 1 1/2 hours-suck that) and a run of area thrift stores. Finds include - Electric 60's Copal Japan clock in faux wood. Pair of 1960 LeGardo Tackett espressos. Yellow Dot Pyrex bowl. SOLD

At another thrift I found another pair of 1959 LeGardo Tackett espressos, how odd. The glass Pyrex decanter was the only item picked from an estate. Passed on a sizable amount of Russel Wright glasses in green or yellow for $2 each-oops. Caught a headache and decided to head home after a waste of 65 miles in gas + tolls.

Thrift - Hear Me Roar

After the two estate sales stopped at area thrift stores. Iceland tea towel. Interesting Modernist ala Alexander Girard wood lion with illegible signature and 1975. SOLD

Two glass jars have been finding a lot of these of late SOLD. Little Swedish tomte SOLD. Three storage plastic jars new in box.

Fire King "Kimberly" mug for the sis. Didn't get the matching bowl cause of a small chip though maybe I should have...though I could just pick it up in an antique store since they are inexpensive. Six bright orange plastic egg cups (orange being my favorite color) SOLD

Forgot to add the 1970-80s Coach purse and a pre-1975 made in NYC Coach leather briefcase (apparently these are rare to find) for the sis. I really like the brief and the bag is growing on me.

Estate - More Chemex

Wasted lots of gas this morning going to the crappiest crap estate sales. Returned to one from last week. German woman was a hoarder...of mugs...ugly ones. I think, she might have been a teacher. I restrained myself from picking up 3 Boynton cat mugs.

The next had hellish parking full of honking horns and screaming people. I headed for the kitchen and saw a price of $5 for a plain ole mug and had that sinking feeling. Lots of old fashioned froo froo items not to my taste but I did find a box of small indent Christmas balls. Climbed a shaky stool to grab a Chemex with handle above the fridge. I shouldn't have left the box of filters, dang.

Headed to a 3 thrift/consignment stores in the area. Now these are in one of the wealthiest areas in the country and these places have the same junk I find in other areas. Do rich people not donate? At one, I found everything below. I can't resist wood Polish dolls. Ducks logo teak Dansk cheese board with hidden knife. A heavy corked pot signed "Anna Hogberg, Sweden 1991" Plus, pair small 1975 Vignelli for Heller glass souffle bowls/ramekin.$20ea

Thrift - GoodWill Vera

Had to rescue this Japan lacquer tray. Wire pot warmer that I hope fits some of my Pyrex. Bright yellow Tupperware cup with lid. I love these as they are durable and just pop into the dishwasher. Polyester Vera long scarf for my sister. Three Danish glass dishes I found all over the store. Looked and looked for the same but I'm guessing someone picked it up. I'm sure I'll find a teak tray for it at some point. Ah, the waiting game. Passed on this Ingraham apple clock-a mistake!

Estate - Chemex Shemex

Arrived at an lake house estate sale 1 1/2 hours after opening. The estate lady said people were lined up at 5am! Things were CRAZY expensive! But of course there was a long line of people buying things.

Paid a lot for this small Chemex coffeemaker with filters dated 1967. Ben Seibel's hard to find Tempron Taste Tempters line, manufactured by Gilley, NY. The wrought iron frame handles are wrapped in sea grass for a Pyrex covered casserole. A very graphic unused "Knots, Hitches & Bends" Ulster Irish linen tea towel. Small blue linen Bo-Peep Provincial style tablecloth. I couldn't resist the squirrels and frolicking lambs.

Cheapest thing, I picked up was a Kosta Boda snowball for $2. Funny thing, I left it behind on a table and when I went back to retrieve it, I saw a lady look down very surprised and pick it up. I quickly explained to her that I'd forgotten it, turned out she was Swedish as she sorrowfully handed it to me.

And a Connemara Irish wool plaid throw with 2 small holes that hopefully Mom will repair. Passed on a plastic yellow Dansk mixing bowl for $5 that was in rotten shape.

Thrift - Herman Miller Mug

Braved the old biddy shop-again nothing. Went to my fave thrift store which was dead and pretty empty of goods. Hopefully, my big box of donations will help and got rid of that UUUGly black "Skulls & Bones" sweater belonging to my bro-in-laws, phew-wee.

Picked up a Christmas make your own ornaments Pom-Pom kit. Blue enamel Turkish pot. Passed on a mint small blue enamel single serving coffee pot maybe it'll be there next time? And a stainless steel German WMF (higher end) butter dish but it's really scratched-don't know what I was thinking? Passed on a Pyrex wood stopper wine carafe (see bottom pic) a second mistake!

At GoodW. I scored a Herman Miller mug! Actually, I went back for this 'cause I thought for sure a Herman Miller mug would be marked on the bottom. SOLD Plus 56 cents for the blue Rosti Denmark spoon.

Thrift - Neon Mouse Bank

My sister is home from Dublin for Christmas. So we stopped at the local thrift. Neon mouse paper mache bank marked 1968. SOLD I know, I've said no more Pyrex but my sister insisted & it's in good shape but I think I have at least 4 of these yellow bowls now.

Thrift - Part Duex

Aside from the credenza here are some of the items I picked up. The only thing I found at the old biddy shop was the glass Chemex missing the wood collar (have 2 now) Had to explain to the ladies what it was - probably a bad idea, I bet the minute I left, they looked on Ebay. Did notice that now some of their mugs are $1 instead of the usual 50 cents. Paid $2.50 for my little Arabia mug the other day. I'm griping.

I was intrigued by the stack of Tupperware bowls because they have colored little plates inside (see pink on atop) Not so exciting, I find out they are for making ice cream sandwiches. An older piece of pastel TupperWare. I don't know why I picked it up, I don't need to start collecting pastel, since I already collect the 70's colors, sigh.

Little Hallmark 1979 angel ornament in green box, made in HongKong. Quail Couroc tray. Maple wood juicer, muddler and stirrer. 1976 Bicentennial eagle hot plate SOLD.

'Graymark Binary Clock' was originally a kit for nerds. Hubby stole it for desk at work and then it broke. Flower fabric last week I found the matching sheer fabric to this, will sell.

Bunch of little red cardinals. Tiny little Swedish Christmas tree candleholder by Gunnar Soderberg SOLD. A terrible handpainted ornament I thought to rescue. A massive leather belt with brass buckle stamped 'Made in England' Did you wear this with a prairie dress? For my sister SOLD. A lastly, very thick Scandinavian style woven textile belt.

Thrift - Nambe Bowl & Snoopy

Nothing exciting from thrifting today. Should have gone to estate sales instead. Three Snoopy root beer glasses.

National Airlines glasses, circa 1965. A little $2 mirror for myself dated 1979 and made in the USA. Oh dear, it's makes things look very big! Milk glass vase. More Butterprint Pyrex for myself, paid $2. And 'Town & Country' Pyrex that match two other pieces I found. SOLD

Little yellow Glasbake bowl, found a pink one a month or so back.

Below, think I overpaid for the 569 Nambe Butterfly bowl because it's not in perfect condition. It was first designed by New Mexico sculptor Richard K. Thomas in 1967. This is a current release of the bowl that retails for $115. It's also made in America! SOLD
