Estate - Pack Rat
Well, I diddled the whole morning and I arrived at 11:30. One of those sales I should have arrived an hour earlier and needed either my Mom or sister there. Yes, it was that crazy! I noticed a few Etsiers loaded down with goodies. This woman never threw anything away! She didn't spend money on anything either. All the good vintage clothes went fast according to the seller. I kept missing all the clothes and textiles packed into every cabinet, drawer and secret cranny. Very annoying to see people walk around with tea towels, table clothes and crinolines.
Above are the few items I picked up for myself. Candy tin, $4 Boda Snowball (#8 in my collection) and vintage wood bar figurines made in Japan that I was overcharged for. A wire letter holder ram SOLD and an apple tea towel signed Ewan that mom now uses.
All the other items are for my sister. They aren't fantastic just vintage cashmere and wool cardigans for the most part. One exception is the brown plaid "Koret of California Sportsware" jacket that reminds me of the 1940s b/w movies. It's outrageously tiny and has monster shoulder pads, see 1954 red jacket, thanks to Corbis Image. And a weird black eyelet booby undergarment that I regret buying. Should have just bought the sleeping bra still in it's original package. Did I mention how many undergarments this woman had...hundreds! But not nice, sadness. She must have been super small & thin when young and then super fat when old-it was so confusing? And at least a hundred gloves but most had mildewed.

Thrift - First David Stewart Pottery
Visited the old biddie shop and picked up a few items. A patent leather "Koret" purse for my sister. It has some scuffs that worry me. Inside is an attached coin purse and a small Bergdorf Goodman mirror. http://www.korethandbags.com/history/
First time, I've seen David Stewart pottery of California. Marked "Lion's Valley Stoneware #28." This wall pocket lions head is well made so I see why it's collectible. SOLD. Swedish candle holder with three spikes for apples and a German Erzgebirge angel candle holder. SOLD

Estate - Missed Timo Sarpaneva Cast Iron Casserole
My sister and I went to an estate sale in a very wealthy area. A lovely 1960's ranch on nice grounds that is going to be torn down, no doubt, to be replaced by a McMansion. And this wasn't a small house. Hmm, camera phone would be handy. Anyhoo, we arrived more than an hour after opening and still had to wait in line-always a bad sign! The prices were the second bad sign.
But I did manage to find a few things I liked. In the back is the largest staved teak Dansk serving board with the Ducks logo but it's not as old as the one I found a few months back. An old mark (dancing African figure) Digsmed teak board. Six piece coaster set is by "Anri Form" of Italy, prob. 1960's. You'll note that I found an Anri condiment set last month.
Picked up a pair a Boda Snowball votives for my collection at $3 each.
Small copper enameled unicorn plate that my sister loved. I think it's Sascha Brastoff or Annemarie Davidson? SOLD And a favorite designer of mine, LaGardo Tackett for Schmid Porcelain, set of espresso cups and saucers. I'll sell these as I collect the striped and plain white variety.
I actually went for the large black Timo Sarpaneva cast iron casserole for what appears to be $32. Can't tell if it's the old ones made in Finland or the new ones made in China (or those only the small ones?). Guessing it was old 'cause everything else in the house was. It was gone by the time I got there-bummer!

Estate - Dang Missed a Good One!
I've been terrible keeping up with my posts. The thought of having to wash everything just makes me to tired to take a picture.
Picked up the Boda snowball for myself at the huge house of a graphic designer. Passed on an overpriced 1994 Nambe S+P set. Why would you pay so much for a house and fill it with 80% IKEA? A few of us were joking over the prices of IKEA ware that was cheaper at IKEA. And people were lined up. Crazy.
I should have gone to the sale down the street from me (arrived 3 hours after opening) The house was packed full of funky items! So much stuff was still in boxes or just crowded behind furniture, a true diggers paradise. The prices weren't bad on most items but condition was an issue.
Only ended up getting a few things. The teak Swedish display with drawers was a very reasonable price. I think, it's to heavy to ship so I'll use it for my wood figurine collection. A little flower tin, a funky Coramatic clock made in Japan. SOLD And an unsigned Salt + Pepper set that I have no info on but aren't they cool! SOLD
A "Liberty of London" flower scarf for the sister. Blue flowered enamel copper dish that still has the "Sascha Brastoff California" sticker. SOLD Signed baby owl oil painting. SOLD Cork pencil holder. SOLD
Oh, and I bought a small credenza that I have to pick up. Where do I put it? And a couple of design books that I forgot to photo.

Thrift - Bjorn Wiinblad Glass Candlestick
After the estate sale stopped at 6 area thrift stores. Also got caught in a massive flood which gave me a nasty cold, bleh. Half of them I found nothing and in one I found most of the items.
Retro 80's 'Caffeine Meter' mug. Boynton 'Furry Christmas' cat mug. Paid $1 for 'Informal' Iroquois China, by Ben Seibel has a chip in the spout but this is probably as close to I'll ever get to this line. Swedish cheese slicer, milk glass vase and glass & cork bottle.
Two 1960's handmade Heath ashtrays. I've only found Heath ashtrays and half the time they are damaged. Perhaps Heath was not popular this area or too expensive? SALE Swedish Reijmre glass owl. SOLD in minutes
Found an old printer drawer or shadow box for 4 bucks so the hubby can display his bullets. Have to take a photo of it...
Cute illustrated German schnapps cup by Susanne Dolker. Where is the bottle? My favorite, a Bjorn Wiinblad glass angel candleholder for $5. Marked 'Rosenthal, studio linie' (the other candle stick is a short angel with wings but where is it?) Iittala beer mug (my third) SOLD Never used German Melitta coffee pot. Paid too much but I can't resist 'em.

Thrift - Roly Poly by Dorothy Thorpe
Kids are going to back to school because they were all buying supplies at the thrift store.
The two shelves are not my usual style but I thought I'd see if they will sell in my Etsy shop. The colorful folk shelf is an artistic style introduced by Fernando Llort during the 1970's to La Palma, El Salvador SOLD. Bergren, Swedish style tile SOLD. Iron owl lantern by Hallmark. SOLD
Quail Couroc bowl. Faceted milk glass vase. Bright orange & yellow Tupperware containers, I couldn't resist the colors!
For all the Mad Men fans, five mini Dorothy Thorpe silver band roly poly glasses, I think this size is harder to find? SOLD

Estate - Poopy Sales
Went to two advertised mid century estate sales this morning. Made me realize why I haven't been to one in months. Rosewood sofa set for 2 grand, really? The houses were empty too. It seemed more like a moving sale. For my sister I picked up a pair of black kid gloves, made in France by Baltman & Co.
And a pair of Taylor & Ng mugs, had to pass on a damaged duck mug. Turns out the cat is rare. Both SOLD.
Paper mache pigeon signed Mateos, Tonala Jal(isco), Mexico. SOLD.
Blue enamel Turkish pot. I'll have to sell these just to make up the gas money.

Thrift - IKEA Moose
Found today at my Fave thrift. Three 50 cents each cedar planks for the grill happy hubby. 1951 California artist Margo Alexander's framed gouache silkscreen. It has that 1940's feel, right? See the back label below. And what I call an IKEA Moose "King of Crappy Furniture" except he has a "Made in Sweden" sticker and he's not a pile of rubbish. Something one would buy in the airport. Paid 50 cents, he'll likely go in my wood figurine collection.
Thrift - Americana Pyrex & Perch!
Stopped by the GoodWill near my house and have never found much of anything there in the past. Usually the place is just full of plastic and old electronics but today was different. Paid a lot for the set of 3 Americana Pyrex bowls (one bowl missing) & divided casserole dish (lid missing) but this is the pattern I collect. Actually, this GoodWill always has lots of Pyrex but I don't think people buy them 'cause of the condition and high prices.
Pair of Boyton cat mugs and yet another FTD rainbow mug.
I knew instantly what the white ceramic ellipse was...it's a bird feeder handmade in Brooklyn, NY by Perch! Because when I was looking for a modern bird feeder I considered this option. Perchdesign.net SOLD
St. Andrews Abbey plaque. Still bears the original label "St. Catherine of Sienna. I found a larger one a few months back. Probably not more than 10 years old. For Sale
I haven't found anything Finnish in ages so I was excited to see these Iittala 'Ballo' votive candle holders with label, designed by Annaleena Hakatie in 1995. SOLD
A plant pot with an interesting turquoise glaze. Signed Atlantic Mold. It's not worth anything but I put my little root bound succulent in it, I think she's much happier now!
Three decorative glass cube floaters probably from Japan, circa 1950-60. That I have found out are highly collectible. For Sale Little teak rabbit that needs some love.

Thrift - Yellow Tupperware & Richard Meier
Well, I guess it'll take quite a find to beat the lamp from a couple of days ago. Just scrappy stuff today. Set of three bright yellow 1960-70's Tupperware bins in excellent condition.
A"The J. Paul Getty Museum Los Angeles" mug designed by the illustrious post-modern architect Richard Meier. I suspect the mug is from 1997 when the Museum opened though the art work seems 80's to early 90's and reminds me of David Hockney's pool paintings. Really wish I knew who the artist was... SOLD
Green glass Dansk candle holder. Glass Bodum cup. And last, a little collectible wood 1987 "Dragonfly" Van Cort Kaleidoscope.
By the way, I tried Trader Joes Blue Agave sweetener in my coffee and it wasn't too bad. Update, Agave is terrible for you!

Birthday Package from Julia
Look what I received in the mail! Love this birthday present!
Julia lives in California and picked up this set from a thrift store for $9.99! I never see this stuff on the east coast, never mind a whole set.
Chartreuse speckled "Parade" tea cups by Laurel Pottery of California. Designed in the 1950's by Ted Scarpino. This closely resembles my speckled Russel Wright plates so I can use them together.

Thrift - Pretty in Pink & Krenit Bowl
Still slow at thrift stores but how could I resist this pair of "Pretty in Pink" Glasbake square cups. Picked up this near mint, signed & hand painted Russian lacquer box, I'm not familiar with these but I thought it was rather nice. Three 1960's yellow rose cloth napkins by Vera. I looked high and low for the fourth napkin and a tablecloth.
A Franciscan side plate, this is our pattern so it'll replace any chipped or broken plates. Deer glass to add to my 10 plus year collection. Someone told me these were promotion glasses for Exxon. Probably after the Valdez Oil Spill, hah, the irony. Bodum creamer and coasters. I bet someone bought the coffee glasses and left the coasters (I picked up a set in Denmark)
Found this 50-60's pale robins egg blue Krenit bowl, made in Denmark. It's the first time I've ever see Krenit outside of an auction. The interior is worn and there are 2 chips to the rim.

Thrift - Edna Arnow Potato
Somewhat busy week thrifting. Had a few finds I really love; Russel Wright, Arnow vase and the Ben Seibel dish. Found a apple and strawberry textile remnant for Julia. Why do I love fondue pots, it's a question I can't answer. Yellow fondue pot complete with forks. Made by "Styson Servo" Made in Japan in excellent condition SOLD.
Super Smurf mug. Made by Wallace Berrie, 1981, Korea. SOLD
Vintage Dutch Masters cigars tin. Has holes in the bottom but I love the graphics. Dansk glass bowl SOLD. Fondue & Buffet cookbook.

Six enameled teak coasters. Made in Denmark. SOLD These are attributed to Carl Lendinara designed by Ben Seibel. http://www.abenseibeldesign.com/Carl_Lendinara.htm
http://mod2mod.blogspot.com/2010/09/carl-lendinara-coasters-designed-by-ben.html
Three salad plates by Russel Wright in yellow and grey. With matched celery plate, just noticed a small recent chip. Gave to Mom as they match one of her Russell Wright pots.
Newer orange Fiesta plate by Homer Laughlin. Another Pyrex divided dish in "Gold Acorn"pattern. Yellow glass square refrigerator dish with lid. Anchor Hocking highly collectible Snoopy mug. I missed out on one a few months back. SOLD
Pictured above a rare white plastic box designed by Makio Hasuike. Made by Gedy in Italy. Circa 1972-77. SOLD
Weird sculptural potato rock (Ikebana) vase by Edna Arnow for $2.75. I found out she was very popular with floral designers and without a doubt this is one of those pieces. I also have a large lidded pot by her. How much to you want to bet the damage to the edges where made at the thrift store? Circa probably 1965.
Green Finland vase with gold detailing. The "Arabia" is crossed out and replaced with T.P. making me think this was used as a blank. Dated 12-1967.
My first piece of Ben Seibel by Mikasa Potters Art. Only found the butter dish but the rest of the set could have been bought up while I was on vacation? Plus, a 1980 yellow Cuisinart Classic for myself since the current one likes to spray food everywhere.
