Thrift - Kaj Franck Origami

My sis is in from Dublin so we went to the thrift store. Found a chipped Kaj Franck Origami K F 2 plate. It was unmarked and is possibly a knock-off but at 50 cents I'll keep it for a while. In addition, I found an original Taylor & Ng whale mug and a pair of blue enamel Turkish pots. My sister found a cute little colorful plastic organizer made in Italy and a set of six NOS green melamine fondue plates made in Japan. Wasn't expecting to find anything today so we were pleased.

Forgot to take a shot of the 1970s red Coleman cooler we picked up, its in slightly better condition than the one pictured below (sorry borrowed the image from Ebay) We were surprisd to see they are worth some decent coinage on Ebay.

Thrift Score - Lagardo Tackett Jars

Look what I found! Three Lagardo Tackett kitchen jars. Would love to keep but sadly they have to be sold. On top them sits a wood Pinocchio.

Four mugs hee hee. Arabia Anemone bowl by Ulla Procope that was expensive but I think I'm selling it. And a trio of kitshy porcelain fawns made in Japan.

Some tourist prints and a Dansk Kobenstyle paella pan that I usually stay away from but this one was in excellent shape.

Estate Fail - Christmas Ornaments Galore

Crazy sale on a modern lake house in a well monied area but of course I missed the crazy part and got the time wrong an arrived an hour after opening. The sales lady said there were 50 people in line at 8am so I don't think it would have really mattered. This woman had tons of German, Italy, Sweden ect Xmas ornaments. See the 1950s Italy hand blown animal ornament for $3. The Lisa Larson tomte was gone too. The sales lady also said a dealer in the first round came and bought all the ornaments.

The pricing was kinda weird as in all over the place. The house was cleaned out by the time I went inside. There was a couple a few minutes ahead of me that got some little Wendt Kuhn and Italy ornaments that made me blue in the face-they didn't even know what they were.

Spent $$$ on the ornaments remaining but they are so cute I couldn't resist!

There was a 3 piece coffee set sterling Tiffany for $1200.

Estate - Doll Hoarder

From a doll hoarder estate. Mostly recent dolls from QVC. Houses full of old ladies dolls just creep me out. The house smelled sick so it was a quick run with little to show for time and gas. Desk / piano lamp, Italy gloves for the sis and some Rosti utensils. Maybe next time.

Community Yard Sale

Went to my community yardsale this morning. Mostly kids stuff, clothes and plastic junk but did manage to find a few nice items.

Realized when I got home that the Coach satchel is missing the front buck/latch, wonder if it can be replaced? MOMA ramen spork by a Japanese designer, the name alludes me at the moment. Bonova enameled penguin pin. Little lone Russian nesting doll SOLD. Vintage Italian glass tree ornament that I have yet to find any info on...

Score - Fornasetti Paperweight

My husband and I spent the weekend at his brothers wedding, my congrats to the little nit, but I did manage to squeeze in a few antique stores on the way home.

Picked up what I thought was a Fornasetti paperweight but was unsure because I could find no marks, probably why it was priced low. Mom tried to talk me out of this purchase but sure am glad I didn't listen to her! For some reason I like gold on porcelain? SOLD

The Porsgrund Norway fish trivet was the only cheaper item in a booth full of Rosenthal and Wiinblad, strange.

The Safeguard soap tin wasn't cheap but I couldn't resist the illustrations. Charlie Bodden says it's very much in the style of Mary Blair. If anyone knows the illustrator I would love more information. SOLD

The "An English pure silk scarf by Callahers of Macclesfield" 1940s to early 50s souvenir scarf was 25 cents! What in the world can you get for a quarter these days? The little Pyrex dish is for me it's one of the two patterns I collect - thought I had a lid at home but of course I don't. Ended up putting back a lot of enamelware - little sad that I did.

Thrift - Another Boda Snowball

Got off to a late start this morning but doubt it matters with the slow thrifts. Found a pair of glass Heller canisters (have a yellow one in the shop) SOLD. Pair of milkglass milk and juice bottles by Carlton, hopefully, I can sell them. A melamine confetti bowl made in Italy, found a matching tray weeks ago SOLD. And finally another Boda Snowball for my collection.

Antiquing - Turquoise Unicorn Lamps

Decided to drag Amy with me antiquing, turns out (for me) she has a good eye. The ice chipper is from Amy. The leather Coach brief is from the mid 80s and made in USA. Paid $65, it's for me as I prefer suitcases over purses and yes, I carry around that much crap! It fits a laptop nicely too.

The gold turquoise matched pair of unicorn lamps were expensive but how can one resist aqua unicorn lamps? Amy spotted 'em and was heavily lusting over them.

The little Sevi egg holder caught my eye last time so I decided to get it. The large Steinbach "Baron Von Munchausen" (riding a cannonball, edition # S798, Steinbach created another version of the Baron von Munchhausen following the issuance of this particular smoker (the hat is a felt hat instead of wooden, like it is here, and there are no feathers in the newer version's hat but this is the original first version. This is a retired, hard-to-find, first edition collectible, 9 inches, early 1980s ) smoker was 1/2 off. It's surprisingly heavy. I don't think they knew what it was despite the sticker on the bottom. A little Japan knee hugger. A heavy metal desk organizer by Deyhle, Germany SOLD. And a German Wendt & Kuhn fishwife miniature - don't think they knew what this was either.

Why I Will NEVER Live Farther South Or In Some Hick Podunk Town

It never fails when I go to some small podunk town that I'm harassed by the local racist white trash. This time, it was Leesburg where some old toothless hillbilly lady tried to inform me of pedestrian law whilst she narrowly missed running down a mother and toddler. Hope she liked my finger.

At two antique shops found a Dansk cutting board and a glittered egg shell ornament for the mother-in-law. I don't know if it's from a kit or made in eastern Europe or somewhere else.

Further on in Frederick, I picked up the orange pedestal at the same stall were I found the Bitossi vase. It still has the original Raymor label identifying it as Bitossi. At another booth my sis made me get the bright orange apple planter probably German (or B.P.F. Heffen Belgium) SOLD. Glad she made me get it 'cause its cute. Found a large unmarked iittala glass bowl but it was chipped.

Christmas To Me

Sorry, I haven't put up any new posts. My sister is visiting from Dublin and in addition to Christmas I just haven't had time. I did manage to but myself a Christmas gift from MidModMom a red Guzzini Italy caddy and Anemome Arabia sugar and creamer (to go with my teapot and cups). The Swiss tea towel is for my sister which she thinks is so adorable that she's decided to hang it instead of using it and I don't blame her.

Major Score! Bitossi Vase

Went antiquing with my mom and sis and purchased this Raymor vase because I liked it (even though mom tried to talk me out of it) and orange is my favorite color. Plus, I never find Raymor Italy pieces in perfect condition. Mom talked them down and got me a great price on it. There was a pedestal piece that I didn't get and regretted afterwards but that's a later post.

Upon arriving home I realized the sticker was marked "BIT" for Bitossi of Italy. Supposedly the vase is the "Rocchetto" line by the great Ettore Sottsass' (Memphis Movement, Italy) Circa 1956-9. So I did some Ebay searches and holy moly! You can see the prices below. Plus a little Japan ornament.

Antiquing - Gemma Taccogna

Looking for Christmas ornaments for me so it was time to visit an antique mall. I picked up this pin cushion paper mache head because I thought it was Gemma Taccogna but the base is simply signed Mexico. Perhaps it's one of her students. If you have any info please let me know.

A porcelain modernist white horse with teak pick mane made in Japan. Someone mentioned to me that they thought the designer might be Italian again if you have any info let me know. The most darling tiny deer and angel (made in Italy) there was a pair but the other deer had foot damage. SOLD. Little German birthday ornament that might be pre-war Germany. And a german hoop ornament of Danish Royal guards SOLD.

Thrift - Makio Hasuike for Gedy

Nothing from the old Biddy shop, passed on a glass plate that I thought was ugly. At my fave thrift, a blue cat Taylor & Ng mug with a chip though I was tempted to keep it for myself, passed.  Gone the next time I went.

Really like the Gedy, Italy ABS plastic bin from the early 70's by Japanese designer Makio Hasuike. Had found a larger one in white a while ago but the thrift had managed to crush it. Passed on this Ernest Sohn chafing dish/fondue several times until I realized the heating element was in the pot.

Moms Finds - Denmark & Italy

Haven't been doing a great job at keeping up with my blog. Mom gave me a large 80s rainbow heart mug. A mod super red cheese grater from Italy-love the color. And a Danish teak and glass server.

Thrift - Dansk IHQ

Dropped off donations at my old biddie shop. Only picked up the Swedish EKS scale even though I had mixed feelings about it SOLD.

Forgot that I wasn't supposed to buy anymore cutting boards when I saw this teak lovely marked: Dansk Denmark IHQ. You see the very thin glass walled Italian perfume bottle at the bottom? Well, it have a match. My basket tipped and I watched in slow motion, one roll into the other. Thinking to myself "Hmm, one of those is going to break" Doh!!! It still pains me to think about it. SOLD
