Thrift Score - Finally Cathrineholm In The Wild

Woohoo found my first Cathrineholm bowl in the wild and in true red. Plus, an 80s wood recipe box and a second Dansk iron candleholder found at the same thrift that I had found the first a few weeks earlier. This one SOLD instantly too.

Score - Fornasetti Paperweight

My husband and I spent the weekend at his brothers wedding, my congrats to the little nit, but I did manage to squeeze in a few antique stores on the way home.

Picked up what I thought was a Fornasetti paperweight but was unsure because I could find no marks, probably why it was priced low. Mom tried to talk me out of this purchase but sure am glad I didn't listen to her! For some reason I like gold on porcelain? SOLD

The Porsgrund Norway fish trivet was the only cheaper item in a booth full of Rosenthal and Wiinblad, strange.

The Safeguard soap tin wasn't cheap but I couldn't resist the illustrations. Charlie Bodden says it's very much in the style of Mary Blair. If anyone knows the illustrator I would love more information. SOLD

The "An English pure silk scarf by Callahers of Macclesfield" 1940s to early 50s souvenir scarf was 25 cents! What in the world can you get for a quarter these days? The little Pyrex dish is for me it's one of the two patterns I collect - thought I had a lid at home but of course I don't. Ended up putting back a lot of enamelware - little sad that I did.

Estate - What a $50 Parking Ticket Looks Like

Drove 40+ miles roundtrip to another overpriced estate sale. You'll see, all I found was; 3 Turi "Market" mugs by Figgjo Flint of Norway SOLD. A large Starbucks Seattle mug and a small wood wren sculpture SOLD. But the crowning glory was a $50 parking ticket cause the douche-bag neighbors called "The Fuzz."

Passed on a small service of the above "Market" for $85 (forgot to photo). It was hard but I find Figgjo a slow selling and I wasn't feeling inclined to piece it all out to make a profit (the prices were making me grumpy). I regret it now cause it was soooo pretty.

Also passed on a slightly rusty Curtis Jere "Birds in Flight" for $300 a local dealer picked it up afterwards.

The chairs to this dining set (see below) were of interest to me - sorta in the market but at least one of the chairs had a seat rip and the table top had a few big water rings. Also noticed the the chairs legs looked as if they had been sitting in water as they had a weird pale white stain crawling up the legs. Too rich for me at $1600.

Liked the $160 angel print but it was already sold to the local dealer who bought almost everything that was decent - with those prices I would have passed even if I had first pick.

Antique Mall Visit - CathrineHolm Bowl

My mom spotted this red lotus Cathrineholm bowl that was tagged "Danish Enamel Bowl" at an antique mall and how could I resist? Some old knotty brown bag my sis wanted and a cute little stamped leather belt for her too.

Down the street at another mall picked up a matched pair of wood painted Buckingham Palace Guards made in Yugoslavia. And a trio of OMC head nodders. We ran out of time before I could buy more junk.

Estate: Catherineholm Fail

Oh my, look at that lovely sight! Somehow I missed seeing this in the ads? My mom thought she'd surprise me with these for Christmas. A sweet sentiment but I wish she'd told me 'cause I would have told her showing up half an hour before the sale was not early enough. Heck, I would have even gone early to that sale and I NEVER go early!

So the guy first in line got the set and a scuffle ensued because a lady grabbed half of the bowls (Hi Canince - Sorry you weren't able to snag em, the guy sounds like a real douche-bag). I don't know how that happened unless they both ran in the door at the same time? Mom said the bowl set went for $120. He also got the rest of the Catherineholm pieces. The aqua Kobenstyles were overpriced at 60 bucks each. Oh well, I'm sure there will never be a next time, hahaha, sadness.

What mom did manage to grab a expensive Dansk staved teak ice bucket designed by Jens Quistgaard. She said people followed her around after she found the bucket (ha ha one of them was Canice  : P )

At another estate sale she found a Kaj Franck Arabia pitcher. The Gorhams owls music box SOLD and wood box are from previous sales.

Thrift - Portland Maine & Cape Cod

These are from three thrifts in Portland, Maine and one in Cape Cod. Isn't it crazy, I find more scandi in the north than in a year down south. The CatherineHolm Lotus pan SOLD was just laying on a shelf at GWill along with a pair of Sears mushroom canisters (on left) Found a second wood Viking SOLD. Plus a silk ballerina and a tourist Bahama scarf for the sis.

In Cape Cod picked up the Arabia Finland strawberry jar and four ceramic mushroom canisters (some mushroom thing going on, left a red mushroom cutting board due to damage). At the few thrifts we stopped in, I was hoping rich people donated items ... apparently that is crazy thinking!

Thrift - A Desperate Buy

Had a lovely lunch with my sis-in-law and before visiting my mom, I stopped at a crappy doo doo moving sale. Then onto GoodW, where desperate to find something, I picked up this Figgjo, Norway Horn mug.

Bombed at another thrift and decided to visit Unique. I know, people love this store but I have never found anything; shelves are always empty, prices are high and crowds are looming. I left a chipped Rosenthal, Emilio Pucci bud vase. A lovely large incised grey & gold pedestal pottery bowl made in Italy (probably Raymor) but it had a decent thrift chip to base but it wasn't so bad that... I wish had picked it up. It's color and design similar to the picture at the bottom.

What I did find were three Rosenthal Studio Linie "Joy 3" Op-Art cups and saucers by Wolf Karnagel SOLD. Circa 1969-73. Didn't get the matching side plates that I now regret.

Thift - Drought

So I made a long trek to 7 thrift stores I frequent every month or so. Shelves were empty-I mean 20 items on the shelf and they were broken or pieces of Ziploc plastic. Above is an English tin, a Scandinavian style mug and a Kilborn Aloha cat mug.

I have been finding a lot of scarves lately? For my sister I picked up a ladybug Vera Flowerpot scarf, 70-80s silk Vera neck scarf, a huge 1960s polka dot Echo, Japan silk scarf and graphic Galla Japan scarf. Had to pass on a very cute silk Vera scarf because of a multitude of yellow stains-unsure could be washed out.

Finally "The Four Musicians of Bremen" wall hanging in mint condition, probably German. The style reminds me of Marimekko fabrics, love the red mushrooms and foliage.

The last two photos are things I passed. A 1990 Bodum box set designed by Carsten Jorgensen except mine had the creamer and sugar but was missing 4 coaster. Too pricey. And last thing was the "Dish Doctor" designed in 1997 by Marc Newson for Magis, Italy. Had wear around the rim of the utensil holders maybe a mistake to pass?

Thrift - More Cute German Plaques

Paid a lot for these vintage German wall plaques even at 1/2 off but I couldn't resist the cuteness. The lady at the secondhand shop dropped one and chipped it, aurgh!

At another shop found zodiac mug and fish Stavangerflint of Norway mug, the rim has a little chip, sadness. Little stainless steel & rosewood tray from Japan. At the last shop found a second Liberty of London silk scarf for my sister.

Daisy Figgjo Flint

How crazy is this! Figgjo Flint Turi Daisy small milk jug just sold Dec 18 on Ebay for $112.49 with 36 bids! I had the teapot and sugar too. Now I know. Sakari Pykala

Estate - German Sale

Our second estate sale was a German family. The son talked about how difficult it was to sell his childhood toys and that his mother would be upset when she returned to her empty house.

The red desk lamp was the the son's he used to study by. He said it was designed by Fritz Hansen and made in Sweden-I didn't think it was slick enough to be F. Hansen. It's actually an L-1 version by Luxo made in Norway, circa 1970's. Originally designed by Jac Jacobsen in 1938 it's still in production today. It's a lovely working lamp unfortunately with a crack on the base, sadness. SOLD

I rescued a custard yellow Arabia Finland "Teema" or is it "Kilta"creamer vinegar cruet designed by Kaj Franck. It has a huge chip on the bottom. Fortunately, I recognized the matching egg ring. Production 1950-55. The son said there had been a whole Teema set but over the years accidents happened, sadness. Heavy bright yellow enamel creamer, maybe French. SOLD

This would make a great tablecloth 3 or 4 yards of neon green "Scallop" tiki style textile by Carol Baldwin Odell 1974. I haven't found any info on the artist-please comment if you do.

My sister picked up a vintage ski sweater, Vera slip and hats (see last photos) Plus, a 1952 W. German puzzle "The Animal Fair" by American illustrators Alice and Martin Provensen. All in all, I think it was a pretty good day of finds and hopefully I'll list things very soon.
