Estate - MidWinter Stonehenge Out The Ears

My last sale for the day was down the road in an 1960s neighborhood at an old lady's house so I had hopes of lots of vintage. Not to be. Looks like she redecorated in the late 80s-90s and she really went all out Virgina Fox Hunting / Horse theme.

Did purchase a massive set of English MidWinter Stonehenge White (only a third of set photo'ed) It's very plain but hope it proves to be popular, a la Crate & Barrel.

Below, a Ralph Lauren Polo mug but discovered one of the two mugs had a cracked handle, boo. Bottle of Chanel No. 5, pair of Campbell's soup mugs, pair of mortars SOLD, yet another Matryoshka (set of 7) SOLD and a red Matryoshka perfume bottle SOLD.

The last photo of the sequined cap and the lamé clothing might be an indication of tastes?

Estate - Horrors Of The Shoe Room

Today was ungodly hot. And by today, I meant this morning but won't complain because I have AC and I don't do outdoor manual labor. First stop was a Korean estate sale. People full on sprinted when the doors opened (what do you think would happen if there was ever a food shortage?) Everything was crazy overpriced! There was even a heated argument at one point - excitement! Only bought a Kosta Boda "Zoo Series" by Bertil Vallien ... err, I paid to much.

The below apothecary chest was $575, no idea what it's worth but the Korean dealer wasn't interested so going to assume it was priced sky high. The walnut sideboard was $595! Not a funny joke for something so common and ugly!

Thought the glass pedestal bowl from the estate website photos was Iittala but not so - haven't a clue who made the set.The $4 floral vase is from the second sale. Look! Look! Look! My flowers from the florist come in that very vase too! Didn't know I could get $4 for it? Regret donating it.

The second sale was in a very nice part of town. Big house with money but soooo tacky! And soooo overpriced! Loved the shoe themed room! The things you see when you haven't got your gun. I've been spoiled these past few weeks and these are my downer sales.

Thrift - Hornsea & Danish Candleholders

Only things I managed to pick up this week thrifting, plus paid mucho bills for them. Enamel pair of Danish candlesticks (a rare find for me) Unfortunately, the old biddy shop decided to Sharpie all the scratches - hate when they do crap like that!

Couldn't resist the minty Hornsea tea and coffee canisters SOLD. I love anything Hornsea (also a rare find for me) SOLD.

More tins ... and some mugs ... Marimekko Christmas mug the other one was cracked, sadness. Christmas mug (I have a bunch of these somewhere) and a bright Taylor & Ng Christmas mug. Large T.G. Greene "Spectrum" sugar jar from England - the cork top needs a little help (thanks Sabvintagehome). A vintage poodle dish by Houze Art.

What! Yes that's another Boda Snowball (makes #16) I don't find much Scandi but Snowballs sure love me! I'm thinking the glass maybe iittala reminds me of "i-series" with it's very thin walls and base it better not be Ikea! The other matching glass was chipped even thought the thrift biddy tried to convince me I could file the large chip down.

Thrift - Arabia & iittala

I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted  Timo Sarpaneva's Festivo candlesticks! The weight and top were right but the seams appeared rougher than the smaller pair I have at home. Thanks to thriftbreak for the help i.d.ing them. Turns out there is a monster chip to one of the flares so these are keepers. Most of the Scandi I find is damaged but then I guess that is why people donate it.

And not far away I spotted a Kaj Franck cat pitcher by Arabia and without damage (my mom found the exact same one for me several months ago). There are two glass floaters (the other is somewhere...) and a bright yellow Ingrid plastic pot that I shouldn't have purchased. I got an unholy amount of mugs but I'll put that in a separate post.

At GWill found this 1970s Midwinter Stonehenge "Sun" service. It was expensive maybe why it was still there. I'm on the fence with this purchase. It weighs a ton plates are SOLD.

Thrift - Lots of Owls

Three owl mugs by Arthur Wood, made in England, so cute hopefully these guys will sell fast SOLD. Bergquist Norway tomte mug illustrated by Judy Hagstom SOLD. An owl bank and an IKEA tray. And a Luxo lamp at my fave thrift.

Thrift - Mr. Monday Mug

Keep saying I'm not going to pick things up at the thrift - as you can tell I have no willpower! Salton warmer, Bath England tourist mug illustrated by Peter Smith, Mr. Monday mustache mug, Bodum cup coasters (always looking for these) and a linen duck tea towel.

Score - Fornasetti Paperweight

My husband and I spent the weekend at his brothers wedding, my congrats to the little nit, but I did manage to squeeze in a few antique stores on the way home.

Picked up what I thought was a Fornasetti paperweight but was unsure because I could find no marks, probably why it was priced low. Mom tried to talk me out of this purchase but sure am glad I didn't listen to her! For some reason I like gold on porcelain? SOLD

The Porsgrund Norway fish trivet was the only cheaper item in a booth full of Rosenthal and Wiinblad, strange.

The Safeguard soap tin wasn't cheap but I couldn't resist the illustrations. Charlie Bodden says it's very much in the style of Mary Blair. If anyone knows the illustrator I would love more information. SOLD

The "An English pure silk scarf by Callahers of Macclesfield" 1940s to early 50s souvenir scarf was 25 cents! What in the world can you get for a quarter these days? The little Pyrex dish is for me it's one of the two patterns I collect - thought I had a lid at home but of course I don't. Ended up putting back a lot of enamelware - little sad that I did.

Thrift - $5 Glass...What A Bargain!

So skipping the lovely Danish estate sale (see previous post), I made the rounds to two local thrift stores. Passed on these Apollo glasses 'cause I thought they were 50 cents rather than $5 each (must have sold cause they are gone now). You gotta love the bargains at the old biddy store! Ended up getting an 80s globe, are they still popular? And four Campbell soup mug / bowls from 1989 SOLD.

At my fave thrift store found four Maxwell House coffee mugs by Kiln Craft of England. My first undamaged Interdesign storage box in a rather boring color SOLD. You don't see the milkglass vase since I just vowed not to buy anymore!

Another Campbell's mug, weird SOLD. An adorable hand-painted oxen mug by Oxney Green, England but discovered a crack in the handle, bummer! And four craft books from the 70s. Used to find tons of these 3 years ago so was mighty surprised to see these. Again no exciting thrift finds compared to those on the West coast but gotta make to with what I have, curse East coast bad taste!

Mom's Estate Finds - Lucienne Day

Mom went to a few estate sales and found me a few things. My favorite is the Lucienne Day tea towel-this will be hard to let go SOLD. Everything is orange and yellow. El Patio set by Franciscanware of California, accordion mug rack and Japan saki vase.

A donut decanter-if you have info on the maker let me know. An Arts & Craft style copper ashtray, a Willow burl vase by Jean Sumner and a Dunoon mug. Thanks mom

Thrift - Vintage Ralph Lauren Mugs

Stopped by GWill, the first time since Christmas. Found a tiny German smoker. What I did luck out on were four Ralph Lauren "Stewart Plaid" Wedgwood England mugs from 1989. Wish they were the ones below, crazy!

Antique Mall Visit - CathrineHolm Bowl

My mom spotted this red lotus Cathrineholm bowl that was tagged "Danish Enamel Bowl" at an antique mall and how could I resist? Some old knotty brown bag my sis wanted and a cute little stamped leather belt for her too.

Down the street at another mall picked up a matched pair of wood painted Buckingham Palace Guards made in Yugoslavia. And a trio of OMC head nodders. We ran out of time before I could buy more junk.

Thrift Part I - Another Scale & Another Mug

At my fave thrift found The Bellevue tin, made in England. Another corked jar. A very cool large Terraillon scale, made in France. Huge Schmidt chest tin, made in Germany. A Holly Hobby-esque mug. Older Scottish Patterson's shortbread tin back before Britain went metric (oops, the thrift store charged me 10x the price)

Moms Finds

Mom found a couple of things for me at what she described "a dumpy church sale" A Chemex coffee pot and a little Danish Nymolle dish illustrated by Hoyrup SOLD.

In addition, there is an advertising mug for Black & Decker by Kiln Craft, England and a 1966 children book "The Travels of Monarch X" I have to mention that as a child, I remember seeing loads of Monarchs during the summer but now, I can't remember the last time I saw one?

Thrift - Dorothy Thorpe Shattered

Am really behind on several posts of estate sale finds. Not to mention updating Etsy. Have been slacking these past few weeks and now I'm panicking with all the items to clean and photograph!

Stopped by a thrift store across from my dentist after having a wisdom tooth pulled-that's how hard core I am! Not to mention, I was so out of it that I forgot my wallet in the restroom. In addition to having a morbid fear of dentists!

Enough about that, I did find a January "Love" series mug designed by Kenneth Townsend. Plus, four Dorothy Thorpe silver rimmed wine glasses SOLD. Unfortunately, the glasses weren't wrapped well and one broke. It's so sad cause it was in mint condition. Just hate when things have lasted 30-60 years and then it comes to me and breaks.

Estate - Tor Viking

Sorry for the delay my blog has been giving me trouble. Went to a mid week estate sale down the street from me, a 1968 contemporary townhouse on a lake. The woman was a high school teacher with a fabulous modern eye who was downsizing.

I did get a cooking set of "Tor Viking"' designed by Turi Gramstad-Oliver for Flint Figgjo, Norway but don't get excited only three pieces are viable. The square dish and bowl have pinhole stains but no chips, the small casserole lid is cracked SOLD, the pitcher has a chip in the lip and a couple of stain, sadness. The large casserole has a small chip on the lid handle but otherwise is in good shape. For sale in my Etsy shop.

Below is a little set of hand-blown cordials if you know the maker please leave a comment.  Believe these to be from the Tivoi line by Per Lutken for Holmegaard. They all vary slightly in height and thickness. I wish, I knew more about glass as she had a large selection of glassware.

A handmade amorphous maple trinket box, a Micheal Lax Lightolier "Lytegem" one of the originals. SOLD. And a darling little pepper pot that I was sorely tempted to keep, from the famed Derry & Toms department store better known for it's Kensington Rooftop Gardens on Kensington High Street, London. Nice little reminder of the store that closed in 1971. Label: Tom & Derry, 75p. Circa 1960-71. SOLD

A small but weighty Swedish vase probably Orrefors since the rest of the vases where labeled as such. In the back a large lotus bowl. Small blue turkish pot, golly I love these SOLD. A Boda Snowball for me. A red wood German village collection SOLD.

Three yellow wool pillows in excellent shape SOLD. Nice large piece of Marimekko fabric by Maija Isola "Pulloposit" (message in a Bottle) 1965. Vera scarf for the sis. Six Vera napkins SOLD. And for my sister a man purse or "Carriel" a handbag used by men in the Antioquia region of Columbia since Colonial times. Stamped: Jerico Envigado.

Thrift - More of the Blahs

Well, I'd call todays thrifts a bust except for the leather camera case by Coast, made in USA. Sure my sister will want it.

Chia Pet-esque pot that is a rip-off off Lisa Larsons cat but still cute SOLD. Glass jar with cork lid. Yet another English tin SOLD. And a Dansk pot lid...because I hoping the rest of it will show up...

Thrift - Drought Continues

Only went to my a fave thrift store this morning. Arrived early too. Didn't make a difference. Shelves are still bare. English tin, third piece of "Pottery Craft" I've ever found in the wild and a pair of Tupperware bowls for me. Plus, a small silver plated/chrome Dansk bear designed by Gunnar Cyren, made in Japan.

Thift - Drought

So I made a long trek to 7 thrift stores I frequent every month or so. Shelves were empty-I mean 20 items on the shelf and they were broken or pieces of Ziploc plastic. Above is an English tin, a Scandinavian style mug and a Kilborn Aloha cat mug.

I have been finding a lot of scarves lately? For my sister I picked up a ladybug Vera Flowerpot scarf, 70-80s silk Vera neck scarf, a huge 1960s polka dot Echo, Japan silk scarf and graphic Galla Japan scarf. Had to pass on a very cute silk Vera scarf because of a multitude of yellow stains-unsure could be washed out.

Finally "The Four Musicians of Bremen" wall hanging in mint condition, probably German. The style reminds me of Marimekko fabrics, love the red mushrooms and foliage.

The last two photos are things I passed. A 1990 Bodum box set designed by Carsten Jorgensen except mine had the creamer and sugar but was missing 4 coaster. Too pricey. And last thing was the "Dish Doctor" designed in 1997 by Marc Newson for Magis, Italy. Had wear around the rim of the utensil holders maybe a mistake to pass?
